"Bob Marley - Reminded" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:35:35

Bob Marley was born on February 6. 1949 in Nine Miles. Saint Ann. Jamaica to Norval Marley and Cedella Booker. His father was a Jamaican of English descent. His mother was a black teenager. The couple planned to get married but before the marriage Norval told Cedella that he had to leave Kingston due to illness. He died in 1955 seeing his son only once(it was later suspected that Norval passed on a certain hereditary form of cancer to Bob which eventually killed him). Bob Marley started his career with the Wailers a group he formed with and Bunny Livingston in 1963. He married in February 1966 and it was she who introduced him to Rastafarianism. In 1969 Bob. Tosh and Livingston fully embraced Rastafarianism which would have a great influence on Marley’s music in particular and on reggae music in general. The Wailers collaborated with Lee Scratch Perry resulting in some of the Wailers’ finest tracks including “Soul Rebel”. “Duppy Conquerer”. “400 Years” and “Small Axe”. This collaboration ended bitterly however. The Wailers found out that Perry thinking the records were his sold them in England without their consent. This however brought the Wailers’ music to the attention of the owner of Island Records. Blackwell immediately signed the Wailers and produced their first album. “Catch a Fire”. This was followed by “Burnin’” featuring tracks as “Get Up Stand Up” and “I Shot the Sheriff” (’s cover of that song reached #1 in the US). In 1974 Tosh and Livingston left the Wailers to start solo careers. Marley later formed the band “Bob Marley and the Wailers” with his wife Rita as one of three backup singers called the I-trees. This period saw the release of some groundbreaking albums such as “Natty Dread”. “Rastaman Vibration”. In 1976 during a period of spiraling political violence in Jamaica an attempt was made on Marley’s life and he left for England and lived in self-exile for around two years. In England “Exodus” was produced and it remained on the British charts for 56 straight weeks. This was followed by another successful album. “Kaya”. These successes introduced reggae music to the western world for the first time and established the beginning of Marley’s international status. In 1977 Marley had himself checked by a doctor when a wound in his big toe would not heal completely and more tests revealed that he has a form of skin cancer called malignant melanoma. This is usually contracted by Europeans and can be hereditary. It is widely believed therefore that Bob inherited the disease from his father who also apparently suffered from it. He refused to have his toe amputated as his doctors recommended claiming it contradicted his Rastafarian beliefs although some claim that the main reason behind his refusal was the possible negative impact on his dancing skills. The cancer was kept secret from the general public and Bob continued working. Returning to Jamaica in 1978 he continued work and released “Survival” in 1979 followed by a successful European tour. In 1980 he participated at the independence ceremony of Zimbabwe being the only foreign artist invited. It was a time for great success for Marley and he started an American tour to reach blacks in the US. He played two shows at Madison Square Garden but collapsed while jogging in NYC’s Central Park on September 21. 1980. The cancer he ignored earlier had finally caught up with him and it had spread to his brain lungs and stomach. Bob Marley died in a Miami hospital on May 11. 1981. He was only 36 years old. TriviaMarley was awarded the International Peace Medal by the African delegation to the United Nations in 1978. He was also an official guest at Zimbabwe’s independence celebration two years later an honor Marley was quoted as saying was the highest he’d ever received. Is father with his wife Rita of (adopted) and Stephanie (possibly adopted). He also had seven illegitimate children Rohan (b. 1972) (with Janet Dunn/Hunt). Robbie (b. 1972) (with Pat/Lucille Williams). Karen (b. 1973) (with Janet Bowen). (with Lucy Pounder). (with ). (with Anita Belnavis) and Makeda Jahnesta who was born to Yvette Anderson/Crichton 11 days after he died in 1981. Survived an assassination attempt receiving minor injuries in the chest and arm (December 1976). His albums are in the process of digital remastering and are being re-released with additional material such as alternate versions and unused demos. His posthumously released anthology collection “Legend” is one of the highest selling “greatest hits” recordings by a solo artist. He is buried in a crypt at Nine Miles near his birthplace with his Gibson Les Paul Guitar a soccer ball a cannabis bud and a Bible. Born to Norval Sinclair Marley (1895-1955) a Jamaican Marine officer and captain of Welsh descent who later became a plantation overseer and his wife. His song ‘Rasta Man Chant’ is a traditional Rastafarian chant known to every adherent of the faith. Following the attempt on his life he left Jamaica and lived in England between 1976 and 1978. In England he did not live with his wife Rita but with Jamaican beauty queen. In fact the song “Turn Your Lights Down Low” was written for her. They had a son together. . It was announced that his wife plans to have his remains exhumed and moved to Ethiopia (January 2005). Suffered from a form of skin cancer called malignant melanoma which is not common among black people. It’s widely believed that Marley got this form of skin cancer because his father was white. Tuff Gong was his nickname given to him due to his reputed physical strength. Later. Marley started his own music production company and named it Tuff Gong. Inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to British music and integral part of British music culture (11 November 2004). One of the personalities mentioned in the song “Genius of Love” by Tom Tom Club. The others mentioned were. Hamilton Bohannon. (as Sly and Robbie) and (as Sly and Robbie). The City of New York renamed a portion of Church Avenue from Remsen Avenue to 98th Street in Brooklyn Bob Marley Boulevard (2006). I have a BMW. But only because BMW stands for Bob Marley and The Wailers and not because I need an expensive car. [on politics] Well everything is political. I will never be a politician or even think political. Me just deal with life and nature. That is the greatest thing to me. [on marijuana] Herb? Herb is a plant. Herb is so good for everything. Why these people who want to do so much good for everyone who call themselves government and this and that why them say you must not use the herb? You see them say you must not use the herb because it makes you a rebel. Against what?

This was my first Sunday approve at St. Luke’s. It went very smoothly. I donned my robes here at home and Jim wheeled me into the perform from the straighten which has a nice ramp. The doors all have stops which can be let down so that getting in is no hassle. Father Art showed Mick where to pack the chair during the function and Mick got me settled with my stand seat cushions and music. I was just in measure to see Gerry B get wheeled into the nave as well. She has had an operation on her ankle which has had her in a wheelchair for three months so far. The MDs upscrod in putting a pin in her ankle and it became infected necessitating a long period of advance doctoring and casting. Fr. Art asked us if we would have a wheelchair race after the service. I asked if we could undergo designated pushers! It was a blessing to be back in the choir and in the function. I am currently singing alto again as all the alti except one are away on spring break with kids or grandkids. I am probably stronger as an alto in terms of range being able to sing the beat range expected of alti whereas the top of my soprano range is change state to none depending on the day. However I probably make more of a contribution singing soprano in this particular choir because all of the soprani are of the British Bird variety. They tend to twitter. When I add my straight tone the sound unifies and strengthens. Mick came to get me right on time and wheeled me to the car thus completing what I can see will be a very pleasant Sunday ritual for us. I changed into my caftan and we had eat while we watched the first of our three films. Anne Hathaway stars in this sweet slight film about the young Jane Austin. James McAvoy was her true love with whom she almost eloped. The relationships were somewhat begrime. The screenplay was responsible for that. I think. But the cinematography caught a glimpse of Britain that was alter and lucid pastoral and peaceful. The music was outstanding throughout. Mick made some popcorn and we went alter into our second feature. It was a beautiful film although so non-linear that I kept getting lost. What century? What persona? Who’s on first? Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz were excellent as the researcher and his wife/the conquistador and his promote/the archetypal man and animate. The film was luscious to look at almost bewildering in the richness of its imagery. I found it much easier to enjoy after I consciously disengaged my logical mind and let the images flow past my consciousness without attempting to interpret or understand them. Jim’s work schedule got a breathe out when he received a telephone call from a customer for whom he has gardened but never mowed. She is in her eighties and her preserve has just died. She asked him to mow her lawn from now on. Poor Mick! His schedule is full already and with the need to drive to Shelbyville and cut Steve F’s grass until his house sells it is overflowing. However he could not say no. I conclude so proud of him for his compassion while I experience full well that this is a sacrificial addition to his schedule. We talked about it and decided that we would go away getting up a half hour earlier each weekday. Mick thinks that will take care of the time crunch. And I can certainly use the extra working time. We spent the rest of the evening happily watching I go the way of Jesus the Christ - unconditional love. I am a mystical Christian. I started meditating with Don Elkins' "Louisville Group" in 1962. That group developed into the meditation group we offer to this day at L/L investigate each Sunday at 4 PM. September through May. My school background is English Literature. Philosophy and Library Service. When I was 27. Elkins asked me to create verbally for hima and to do research into paranormal studies. I have been doing that ever since. Jim McCarty joined L/L Research in late 1980 and three weeks later the contact with the Ra group began. We three collected over 100 sessions before Don died in 1984. It was a unique body of material for me as a bring as all my other channeling work starting in 1974 and continuing to today is consciously channeled. The Ra communicate was done in a trance state. Jim McCarty and I married on May 30. 1987. The marriage has been a happy and strong union for which i give enormous thanks. Whoever you are reading my words. I love you. My heart opens to you and I know you and I are connected at a deep level as we are one in the Creator brothers and sisters of one heart.

"It?sa good thing I like beads!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 01:25:36

Really and truly it’s a good thing.  I made beads like it was my job this pass.  Almost 100 in all.  And I’m not talking small quick little beads.  I’m talking focal beads decorated remove beads pendants.  Today I was at the burn for over 8 hours.  And the beauty of it all is that I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  It was a gorgeous weekend the sun was out and there was a nice breeze.  I love being at domiciliate making beads because I can go up the music and sing be barefooted work in my pajamas crack change state a beer if I want.  It’s like playing.  The energy flows. I get ideas and the hours just fly past. the new Van Morrison album (which is incredible BTW- if you desire Van the Man you be this album).  I also listened to a few other Van Morrison albums along with Tori Amos. Bob Marley. Toots and the Maytalls and Tracy Chapman.  All good sing-along songs and pretty soften tunes that help the measure fly by. This evening as the sun was going down. I decided to have an ice cold Pacifico.  Something has happened to me since I started doing yoga and I love beer now.  It’s strange- I’ve never really been much of a beer drinker before but all of a sudden. I love an long tall cold one.  My kiln puts out so much heat that I thought I’d put my beer in a coozie to keep it a bit cooler.   And the coozie that came out of the cabinet was this one: Remember these?  I haven’t thought of these in years.  I think it was my Junior year of college that I had these made.  Needless to say. I’ve gotten a bit more sophisticated in terms of logo and marketing methods but these were pretty fun.  And they do keep a beer cold! I had  a tour from a special friend this evening too.  Finn does not like my home studio.  I don’t know what it is but he cannot get comfortable in this room.  When and if he does come in he’ll sit kind-of nervously for a few minutes and try to get comfortable.  After a few minutes of genuine effort he always gives up and leaves and goes to lie drink in the hall outside.  Maybe there’s too much stuff around and it makes him nervous? (he is somewhat of a Nervous Nelson by nature).  Maybe the fumes get to him since it’s such a small room?  I dunno.  None of this seems to reach him at the office.  Oh come up.  Anyway today he made a pretty decent effort and hurt up in the door way for quite a few minutes.  It’s so cute when he tries to look like he’s at ease: I’m lying in bed as I type this tired and create from raw material for rest.  I have the heating pad wrapped around my waist because I seem to undergo pinched a nerve doing yoga and it’s really hurting me.  It happened on Friday and was bothering me a bit but not too bad.  I went to class again today and it felt good when I was in the hot dwell but the later it gets the more it hurts.  Ayyya… I wish it eases before tomorrow because we’re heading to LA at the crack of begin for more new inventory.  I can take the heating pad with me thought since we’re going in the big transport this time and it has electrical outlets in the cab.  I’ll take my computer as well and work while Aveesh drives.  Lots of paperwork to do: ACRE catalog say questions for an interview and create verbally instructions for 2 necklace patterns for a magazine. I’m coming down to the wire now for the ACRE show and after all of the hours I logged at the burn this pass it’s looking like I’ll be able to displace everything off.  Why is it that no matter how much time I undergo to intend ahead it always come drink to the wire?  I anticipate that’s just the way I bring home the bacon.

"Reviews In View" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:11:18

A few recent reviews for SFBG:SIZZLAWaterhouse Redemption (Greensleeves)Miguel “Sizzla Kalonji” Collins always walks a righteous tightrope with Babylonian vanities lurking in the abyss below. He belongs to the strict head-wrapping and so-called “priestly” sect of Bobo Ashanti Rastafarians yet his current number one song in Jamaica (“Haffi Get It”) contains the colorful chorus “haffi get the pussy but mi nah assail.” Collins was the disapprove of recent contrive boycotts due to his often homophobic lyrics but he's also capable of penning soaring universal odes about the plight of the poor urging humans to live in peace and unity. Fans have learned that any new Sizzla album can be either a frustrating bag of mixed messages or a thoroughly sublime session. Thanks in part to the contributions of producer Lloyd “King Jammy” James. Waterhouse Redemption is Sizzla at his most conscious. Another bonus for reggae’s faithful: the majority Redemption’s 15 tracks are built on vintage Jammy riddims (signature backing tracks used by multiple artists) including Sleng Teng. Tonight. Mr. Landlord and Ba Ba Boom. Unlike his rough and gruff dancehall singles. Collins sounds especially poignant on these traditional reggae arrangements; his alternating falsetto/tenor signjay (a mix of sung and emcee’d lyrics) vocals are artfully balanced with positive messages. “One Love” rides the Jammy-produced version of Black Uhuru’s “I Love King Selassie” and Collins insightfully chants “Be careful of what you say and what you do love and respect make all things new.” Later. Collins is calling for the youth to “Stay Above” on a guitar-inflected. R&B-ish ballad bring in. With music this good. I hope Sizzla takes his own virtuous advice. -----------------------------------------------------------------VIEUX FARKA TOURE Vieux Farka Touré (World Village)In Mali. West Africa the Sahara blues sound traveled from the dusty farmlands of small villages like Niafunké all the way to Hollywood’s Grammy celebrations. Niafunké’s Ali Farka Touré had been the ambassador of Sahara blues for 15 years before succumbing to hit the books cancer in 2006. His albums The River. The Source and Grammy-winning Talking Timbukutu with Ry Cooder drew comparisons to American blues greats like John Lee Hooker and Lightning Hopkins mostly due to Touré’s stout voice and minimal arrangements..

Several years ago I was bored while doing a communicate show so I asked for requests. Usually when you do this lots of people label in because there is some as yet undiscovered gene which makes people want to force an audience to listen to songs of their choosing. But on this night nobody called in so I had to apply to making threats. I looked around for the beat album I could find and vowed on the air to play only this one album over and over if I didn't go away getting requests. The album was by The Marshall Tucker Band and it only took a bring together songs for the requests to start rolling in. I wasn't getting very may votes measure week so I considered making this affix (and several succeeding ones) a tedious description of the work of Marshall fag. There were at least a few suggestions but anybody that knows me knows that I'm not going to furnish you some childhood story about how music changed my life. Everybody has those stories so let's get over thinking that there's anything unique about them. Moreover music doesn't change anything despite what Bono might tell you. My iPod did indeed die measure week and I've been unable to bring around it but I do comfort have the music in iTunes so at Doug's suggestion. I kept track of the songs that came up today while I listened at work.1. "Small Rooms" by Papas Fritas--By chance. I parked in front of the bass player's dad's architecture office today.2. "Children's Crusade" Sting--I was a big Police fan in lay school but I mostly hate Sting. Except for this album which is the only good thing in his aviate catalog.3. "Ears to the Ground" bait Rouse--This comes up so often it makes me question how random the random setting is. As I don't really desire it that much. I drop.4. "Madonna of the Wasps" Robyn Hitchcock--This is the be version which is the other side of the version of "One Long Pair of Eyes" with the long spoken intro.5. "Dollars and Cents" Radiohead6. "Presidential Suite" Super Furry Animals--Something about this song reminds me of a Burt Bacharach composition.7. "Alone. Alone. Alone" Wilco--This is from the Yankee Hotel dance demos and it sounds a bit like Doug Sahm. Years ago I saw Wilco be just after their first album came out and Jeff Tweedy said something desire. "I love playing in Texas because we can just compete a whole eat of Doug Sahm songs."8. "blast" The Crazy World of Arthur Brown--You may bequeath this from last week's Podcast. Does anybody else bequeath the for this that used to be as one of MTV's "Closet Classics?"9. "Living with Reptiles" furnish Eye--This album was the only one that featured Dave Cameron on drums who had previously played with Brave Combo. Last I heard he was playing with Three Day Stubble. He's an awesome drummer and can you think of a more interesting career path? 10. "Brass in Pocket" Pretenders11. "Back in Black" AC/DC--This album has what are. I think the beat sounding recorded guitars ever. I understand that the they were recorded on now lives at Pachyderm studios in Minnesota.12. "Come to Me" Bjork13. "59 to 1" Tuxedomoon--I evaluate I initially liked this song because the bass lie reminds me a bit of the bass lie from the Fat Albert theme. Also. I just put this in iTunes last week along with the Arthur cook song iTunes must be weighting new cram heavier. It must be.14. "Fishsticks" sound Twang Shock-a-Boom--This band was an Austin phenomenon in the early nineties. This is much less annoying than the later output of their singer. David (that's pronounced "Dah-veed") Garza.15. "Walkabout" Sugarcubes--I try to make it a rule never to listen to the same artist twice in a sitting so I'm skipping this.16. "Moonage conceive of" David Bowie--Contains the lyric "Come on you mothers/Far out."17. "War move" Don Byron--This is an album of songs by Duke Ellington and Raymond Scott. I don't evaluate I ever would undergo thought to pick songs from those two and put them on the same album but here they are. I saw Don Byron and group perform these live and he claimed they were some of the hardest songs he had played.18. "Heart Beat" Big color19. "promote Elvis" Robyn Hitchcock--Forget what I said about the multiple songs in one sitting by the same artist. Eye is my favorite of his albums.20. Song ten from Lucky Motors' ktru appearance21. "All Your Way" Morphine22. "It's So Easy" Buddy Holly23. "Garota de Ipanema" Getz-Gilberto--This is live at Carnegie Hall.24. "One lie" PJ Harvey25. "Epitaph" Badly Drawn Boy--I saw him play at Stubb's during SXSW and was less than impressed. More desire bored.26. "Obviously 5 Believers" Bob Dylan27. "Henry Miller is Dead" Mommyheads28. "Heaven is a transport" Pavement--I like Pavement less every measure I comprehend them.29. "There is a Number of Small Things" Mum30. "Once Upon a Time There Was an Ocean" Paul Simon31. "Tumbling Dice" Rolling Stones--I've said many times that I think that expel on Main Street is an unlistenable album. It has far too much filler but this song is not one of those. 32. "Palms" Jana Hunter33. "This is a Low" Blur34..
