Alhamdulillah -looking at my own gorgeous image in the mirror- *appear of somebody threw up in the background* titled Jane Eyre an unabridged edition from Penguin Books with its classical color & orange cover. Yes it’s my mom’s. At that time my mom incessantly told me that the book was a must-read and the movie made based on the schedule was also worthed to watch (George Scott as Mr Rochester). My mom change surface came to the inform where she managed to made an (handwritten) Indonesian translation of it for me even though she stopped translating at page three of the original book. I read the translation so many times and finally I was motivated to ingeminate it myself with my inadequate Junior High English skill ( ) equipped with WJS Poerwadarminta’s English-Indonesian dictionary (which I comfort use till today although it’s already torn and splitted into many parts because I haven’t found any other dictionary as complete and as good). I was impressed with Charlotte’s extended descriptive writing ability. I was also impressed with the tranquility and loneliness it invokes in me and I admired the protagonist who was an intelligent woman succeeded in achieving her objectives. At the approve cover. I found out that there were 3 Brontë sisters (and 2 brothers) and all sisters had written novels and poems. They lived in a solitary lodging surrounded by moors and educated mostly at home. No wonder their stories always had a solitary moorish surroundings. Wuthering Heights were written by Charlotte’s younger sister. Emily who had died on 1848 at the age of 30 before this novel was acknowledged as a success. The story is told by a Mr Lockwood a young man who rented Thrushcross Grange a house owned by Mr Heathcliff who lived in his own house. Wuthering Heights. The situation concerning his acquaintance with the landlord had brought him to remove further into Heathcliff’s family matters. After the encounter with the haughty Mr Heathcliff a young and pretty lady named Catherine Linton a young and shabby (but handsome) lad named Hareton Earnshaw an old man named Joseph a kind maid named Nelly Dean and a strange dream about a go who claimed that her name was also Catherine Linton. Mr Lockwood were interested enough to ask Nelly who had lived with the family since Heathcliff was still a small boy to tell him the complete story of Heathcliff family. So this is a story inside a story. I don’t want to tell the whole story of Nelly. I be you to endure the misery of reading this classic schedule hohohoho. "Review: Virginia Bedfellows by Gavin Morris" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:33:59

Banished from England and forced to work as indentured servants in Colonial Virginia. Lance Morley and Adam Bradley share a secret that could cost them their lives. As Virginia Bedfellows they find love passion and pleasure on the Ashley Landing plantation building a life together that’s immoral in the eyes of society and criminal in the eyes of the law. Their unbreakable bond—and the friendships they form with kindred spirits in nearby Williamsburg and far away Philadelphia—help them face down fear prejudice and the constant threat that their secret will be exposed. is a strongly plotted astutely researched story of those folks whose position near the bottom of colonial America’s social hierarchy has rendered them all but invisible in fiction set in the period. Oh we get our fair share of earthiness and speaking as an erotica aficionado I must say there’s enough here to satisfy. The only things that get in the way of pure enjoyment of this unusual juxtaposition of careful research and relatively abandoned sensuality are certain stiltedness of exposition and dialogue and an uncomfortably politically correct feel to the character motivations. The book begins like iconic Victorian literature but lacks the grittiness of Stevenson or the satire of Dickens. Both protagonists are strangers in a strange land faced with exotic settings and uphill battles charged with becoming the men English society would never have allowed them to be. Lance (no comment on the name) is an journeyman cordwainer convicted of the manslaughter of a constable who insulted his master’s daughter and transported to the American colony of Virginia. Aboard ship he catches the eye of the captain (conveniently widowed) who resolves simultaneously to fuck the boy silly and indenture him to a Williamsburg acquaintance. Unlike Lance whose habitual anger landed him in his predicament. Adam is a milder sort reared gently by an aunt in service in a manor house. His education gives him ideas above his station and when he demands turnabout in their lopsided affair from the lord of the manor he’s punished with a choice between transportation and execution. Naturally both youths end up on the same Tidewater plantation their indentures bought by a compassionate and enlightened slaveholder. Their tentative approaches to each other yield some of the most affecting passages in the book and make up for the psychological anachronisms that abound. Furthermore the sex life Adam and Lance forge with each other is charmingly earnest (in an early-pulps sort of way) and suffused with earthiness and humor (the description of the origins of “cornholing” is worth the price of the book and there’s a running riff on “navel gazing” that had me in stitches). The addition of a sympathetic friend or two brings variety and depth to what would otherwise have been a fairly ordinary love story. The psychological anachronisms are harder to stomach because the research is so solid and the settings material culture and behaviors so convincing. The animosities Adam and Lance suffer come across as the thinnest veneer rendering the richness of the historical setting almost superfluous at times. For example the main antagonist is another indentured man a closet case named Matt whose threats to out Adam and Lance are toothless in the face of the plantation owner’s general tolerance (forget for a moment that he owns slaves). We know he won’t turn the lads out nor turn them in to the law. When the situation reaches its inevitable conclusion the dénouement lacks the excitement that would have existed if the dangers had been more real. Matt is an unpalatable figure to be sure but as with other aspects of the novel there’s a lot of author-driven exposition and not enough character-driven story. We’re told of the lack of tolerance and need for discretion and Lance especially spends a lot of time fretting about discovery and its consequences but the author never shows us enough (the passages with the jealous Matt notwithstanding) for us to feel the danger in our guts. Without spoiling the plot (and I’m not even tempted to do so because this is a novel well worth reading despite the flaws I’ve mentioned especially if you like colonial settings). I will say there is real tragedy here and the historical setting (and Morris’s treatment of it) makes the outcome more poignant. By the time the novel itself draws to a close the reader is much more fully invested in the characters and the plot because for all the homo-tolerance and plantation-labor solidarity the protagonists have been through the wringer and come out quite different men.

"Neidermeyer lives." posted by ~Ray

(Born into an automotive fortune). Erik Prince with three older sisters was a hardworking boy an athlete whose straight-arrow ways amazed classmates. change surface at Holland Christian High he stood out. He neither drank nor smoked. While friends flashed new-wave haircuts or mullets in the 1980s he was one of two boys pictured in his senior yearbook with a crew cut. …After graduating. Prince headed to the U. S. Naval Academy only to quit after three semesters. He told friends he was disappointed in the maturity and morality of his fellow midshipmen. “I know when he got back he said that he thought everybody at the academy would just discharge red white and blue desire he did,” the former coach. Heethuis said. “But he found out some populate were just there for a free education.” Prince landed an internship in the early 1990s in the color accommodate under then-President George furnish. Again he was disappointed. He later told the Grand Rapids Press: “I saw a lot of things I didn’t agree with — homosexual groups being invited in the calculate agreement the Clean Air Act those kinds of bills.” I have a mantra that I use sometimes; I devised it when I was living in Indiana and had to keep a straight face when for instance my dwell said he was moving to the suburbs so his children wouldn’t be subjected to “outcome-based education” in assemble Wayne schools. I’d say to myself: “Everyone travels a different path to this moment in time. populate see different things along the way which may bring about them to different conclusions about how the world works. Their path is not my path and I consider their right to jaunt it and make up their own minds.” Repeated inside one’s head perhaps with a nod and smile it makes for far smoother relations in life than going with a knee-jerk. “God you are so beat of shit.” And the thing is. I really believe it. I experience some of you who disagree with me might believe I tip a little too far into the you-are-so-full-of-shit direction but in my heart of hearts. I think this country is big enough for all of us and is in fact better for it. Viva diversity all diversity. Honest: I don’t be to be in a world where everyone agrees with me. Only sometimes do I despair. The profile of Erik Prince quoted above was one such moment. I had to sit for a long measure digesting it before I came up with something good to say about this son of privilege who grew up to be some sort of patriotic robo-monster a boy who scorned his Naval Academy classmates for being there for “the remove education” — It’s always the rich ones who don’t know what education is worth isn’t it? — who then went on to raise a mercenary army where the warriors are paid in the neighborhood of $100K (but aren’t in it for the money. “just loyal Americans who ‘bleed red white and blue.’”). And it was this: If Erik Prince’s private jet — I’m assuming Blackwater has one — went down today his obituaries would be respectful and in some circles anyway change surface reverent. A son of privilege who nevertheless worked hard achieved much gave much back he’d be lionized as the beat America has to give to the world. Even though for all his fine qualities he seems to undergo developed ideas that are nothing short of un-American. That America should fight wars with soldiers for hire for starters. There’s a reason our professional pass categorise is small and works for respect and glory not money. There’s a cerebrate mercenaries get the same respect as prostitutes. There’s a reason “war profiteer” isn’t a term of endearment. That making policy means getting your way every time. I love these guys the sorts who carry a write of the Constitution in their approve pockets and forget what it took to write the thing i e. compromise. Then it meant fighting over a bicameral legislature. Today it means meeting with gay-rights groups and crafting budget deals. Same idea — consensus. Winning an election doesn’t mean ignoring the populate in the country who didn’t choose for your guy. I notice the Freep reader comments quickly turned up a you-can’t-HANDLE-the-truth contingent which may be about the only defense of this outfit one can make. conceive of of an America that takes its warmaking seriously enough to ask sacrifice from everyone of one that doesn’t torture or tolerate civilian “contractors” who shoot civilians and you get a evince and a wave-off. Everyone travels a different path to this moment in time. People see different things along the way which may lead them to different conclusions about how the world works. Their path is not my path and I respect their right to travel it and alter up their own minds. Eh. It was that kind of morning. The Prince story was the first thing I read. The back up was on summon One of the NYT about the puzzling seemingly inexplicable go of. Warning: Do not construe after a recent eat. And why is it happening? Well shit happens and then it happens again: Many Congolese aid workers denied that the problem was cultural and insisted that the widespread rapes were not the product of something ingrained in the way men treated women in Congolese society. “If that were the case this would have showed up long ago,” said Wilhelmine Ntakebuka who coordinates a sexual violence program in Bukavu. Instead she said the epidemic of rapes seems to undergo started in the mid-1990s. That coincides with the waves of Hutu militiamen who escaped into Congo’s forests after exterminating 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus during Rwanda’s genocide 13 years ago. Mr. Holmes said that while government troops might have raped thousands of women the most vicious attacks had been carried out by Hutu militias. The controversy started when a shopper got upset after seeing that the store was selling Israeli couscous. A petition drive was launched and a group called Boycott Israeli Goods garnered enough signatures to get a ballot proposal on which the co-op’s roughly 6,000 members could vote. Two previous co-op boycotts involved tuna that harmed dolphins and grapes in give of do work workers. Both boycotts ended years ago. Last month members cast ballots on the Israeli-products ostracise. At times the arguments involved anti-Semitic sentiments. Some ostracise supporters held up Nazi swastikas outside the store concerning many shoppers. It’s this alter that’s making me crabby. I went to a high-school football game Friday — half of it anyway — and sat in the stands in sheer misery feeling my styling products melt down my neck in a slimy dawdle. We raked leaves on Saturday at the lake cottage in shorts and T-shirts and the blast afterward always a pleasant ritual of fall was sheer misery. And yesterday I did the unthinkable — turned on the air conditioning. In October. Eric Prince’s father and my father were room mates for a year in grad educate. (At a quasi fraternity known as Dutch House originally founded to provide a safe Christian house for Dutch boys heading to Ann Arbor from the Holland/Grand Rapids area. It’s still there.) My Dad still talks about running into Ed Prince in a Holland restaurant some years ago and how excited he was to be introduced to Prince’s companion. Dr. James Dobson. Yup that’s my Dad. An excerpt: “I experience a little something about soft money as my family is the largest single contributor of soft money to the national Republican Party,” Betsy DeVos wrote in an op-ed for the Capitol Hill newspaper Roll label. “I have decided however to stop taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now I simply concede the inform. They are right. We do expect some things in return. What they expect of course is good clean government that creates tax loopholes especially for their business oh and “a conservative governing philosophy consisting of limited government and respect for traditional American virtues”. What Dana Milbank showed and what I was most offended by in what I saw of Eric’s testimony was his smugness. How effing offensive. His inherently nasty company has never lost someone they were protecting. They have killed a couple hundred people who may or may not have been threatening and one of them had a few too many at a Christmas party and killed the VP’s body follow but they’ve never lost someone in their charge. Jeez. Ricochets? Gotta check out for those ricochets. hmmm … I query -if at formal occasions for the Blackwater “family”- if the prescribed uniform is black and silver with lightning bolt “s” and death’s continue insignias and jackboots and master prince is greeted with “sieg heils” ? I imagine Hitler and Torquemada both truly believed in their missions in life as come up ! This is one really scary dude … and I wonder about the long-range [or maybe not so long-range] aims of this religious fanatic and his mercenary army and wannabe air force insofar as a home based coup is concerned … shades of Aaron remove with religion on the side ? I would be really interested in hearing more from those that knew him at the Academy … seems entirely possible that he got there and open that he was not the demi-god he pictured himself to be and which he has now done all in his power and money to make himself appear. In this account of stupidity within the Kelty race the best quote was “This isn’t a race for student council.” And the Journal-Gazette reaches more people than the South Side Times (a high educate newspaper) and Kelty’s cake got the front page above the change surface! Neidermeyer is brilliant! And yes. Nance you are right (again) about the origin of the Blackwater label. Btw. I see these guys all the time and they are right scary even in the good old U. S of A. He later told the Grand Rapids Press: “I saw a lot of things I didn’t accept with — homosexual groups being invited in the calculate agreement the Clean Air Act those kinds of bills.” I undergo a mantra that I use sometimes; I devised it when I was living in Indiana and had to act a straight approach when for instance my neighbor said he was moving to the suburbs so his children wouldn’t be subjected to “outcome-based education” in Fort Wayne schools. I’d say to myself: “Everyone travels a different path to this moment in measure. People see different things along the way which may lead them to different conclusions about how the world works. Their path is not my path and I consider their alter to travel it and make up their own minds.” Repeated inside one’s head perhaps with a nod and grimace it makes for far smoother relations in life than going with a knee-jerk. “God you are so beat of shit.” And the thing is. I really believe it. I know some of you who disagree with me might accept I tip a little too far into the you-are-so-full-of-shit direction but in my heart of hearts. I evaluate this country is big enough for all of us and is in fact better for it. Viva diversity all diversity. Honest: I don’t want to live in a world where everyone agrees with me. Only sometimes do I despair. The profile of Erik Prince quoted above was one such moment. I had to sit for a long time digesting it before I came up with something good to say about this son of privilege who grew up to be some sort of patriotic robo-monster a boy who scorned his Naval Academy classmates for being there for “the free education” — It’s always the rich ones who don’t know what education is worth isn’t it? — who then went on to increase a mercenary army where the warriors are paid in the neighborhood of $100K (but aren’t in it for the money. “just loyal Americans who ‘bleed red white and blue.’”). And it was this: If Erik Prince’s private jet — I’m assuming Blackwater has one — went down today his obituaries would be respectful and in some circles anyway change surface reverent. A son of privilege who nevertheless worked hard achieved much gave much approve he’d be lionized as the beat America has to give to the world. Even though for all his fine qualities he seems to have developed ideas that are nothing short of un-American. That America should fight wars with soldiers for contract for starters. There’s a cerebrate our professional soldier class is small and works for respect and glory not money. There’s a reason mercenaries get the same respect as prostitutes. There’s a reason “war profiteer” isn’t a term of endearment. That making policy means getting your way every measure. I love these guys the sorts who carry a copy of the Constitution in their back pockets and drop what it took to create verbally the thing i e. compromise. Then it meant fighting over a bicameral legislature. Today it means meeting with gay-rights groups and crafting budget deals. Same idea — consensus. Winning an election doesn’t convey ignoring the populate in the country who didn’t choose for your guy. I sight the Freep reader comments quickly turned up a you-can’t-HANDLE-the-truth contingent which may be about the only defense of this outfit one can alter. Dream of an America that takes its warmaking seriously enough to ask sacrifice from everyone of one that doesn’t torture or tolerate civilian “contractors” who shoot civilians and you get a evince and a wave-off. Everyone travels a different path to this moment in time. People see different things along the way which may bring about them to different conclusions about how the world works. Their path is not my path and I respect their right to travel it and make up their own minds. Eh. It was that kind of morning. The Prince story was the first thing I read. The second was on summon One of the NYT about the puzzling seemingly inexplicable go of. Warning: Do not read after a recent breakfast. Instead she said the epidemic of rapes seems to have started in the mid-1990s. A petition drive was launched and a assort called Boycott Israeli Goods garnered enough signatures to get a ballot proposal on which the co-op’s roughly 6,000 members could vote. Two previous co-op boycotts involved tuna that harmed dolphins and grapes in give of do work workers. Both boycotts ended years ago. Last month members cast ballots on the Israeli-products boycott. At times the arguments involved anti-Semitic sentiments. Some boycott supporters held up Nazi swastikas outside the hold on concerning many shoppers. It’s this heat that’s making me crabby. I went to a high-school football game Friday — half of it anyway — and sat in the stands in sheer misery feeling my styling products break up drink my neck in a slimy trail. We raked leaves on Saturday at the lake cottage in shorts and T-shirts and the fire afterward always a pleasant ritual of fall was sheer misery. And yesterday I did the unthinkable — turned on the air conditioning. In October. Eric Prince’s create and my father were room mates for a year in grad school. (At a quasi fraternity known as Dutch accommodate originally founded to give a safe Christian house for Dutch boys heading to Ann Arbor from the Holland/Grand Rapids area. It’s comfort there.) My Dad still talks about running into Ed Prince in a Holland restaurant some years ago and how excited he was to be introduced to Prince’s affiliate. Dr. James Dobson. Yup that’s my Dad. An excerpt: “I know a little something about soft money as my family is the largest single contributor of soft money to the national Republican celebrate,” Betsy DeVos wrote in an op-ed for the Capitol forge newspaper Roll Call. “I undergo decided however to forbid taking offense at the suggestion that we are buying influence. Now I simply acknowledge the inform. They are right. We do expect some things in return. What they expect of course is good clean government that creates tax loopholes especially for their business oh and “a conservative governing philosophy consisting of limited government and consider for traditional American virtues”. What Dana Milbank showed and what I was most offended by in what I saw of Eric’s testimony was his smugness. How effing offensive. His inherently nasty company has never lost someone they were protecting. They have killed a bring together hundred populate who may or may not undergo been threatening and one of them had a few too many at a Christmas party and killed the VP’s be guard but they’ve never lost someone in their rush. Jeez. Ricochets? Gotta watch out for those ricochets. hmmm … I wonder -if at formal occasions for the Blackwater “family”- if the prescribed uniform is black and plate with lightning bolt “s” and death’s continue insignias and jackboots and master prince is greeted with “sieg heils” ? I imagine Hitler and Torquemada both truly believed in their missions in life as come up ! This is one really scary dude … and I query about the long-range [or maybe not so long-range] aims of this religious fanatic and his mercenary army and wannabe air compel insofar as a domiciliate based coup is concerned … shades of Aaron remove with religion on the side ? I would be really interested in hearing more from those that knew him at the Academy … seems entirely possible that he got there and found that he was not the demi-god he pictured himself to be and which he has now done all in his power and money to make himself appear. In this be of stupidity within the Kelty race the beat ingeminate was “This isn’t a race for student council.” And the Journal-Gazette reaches more populate than the South align Times (a high school newspaper) and Kelty’s cover got the front summon above the fold! Neidermeyer is brilliant! And yes. Nance you are right (again) about the origin of the Blackwater name. Btw. I see these guys all the measure and they are alter scary even in the good old U. S of A. I personally saw them for no apparent reason. He also put a Tonfa in the guy’s throat. The case didn’t go to court or I would undergo been able to testify against them. Damn. I say they’re criminal mercenaries and should be shot on comprehend. As Nance knows there was only one good mercenary and he was headless. Last week guard arrested two 13-year-old boys on suspicion of daubing swastikas and naked women on the door of a Haifa synagogue. A 19-year-old was charged with setting fire to a booth where Haifa’s religious Jews celebrated the Sukkot festival. In Bnei Brak a predominantly Orthodox town near Tel Aviv someone painted “Heil Hitler” on a synagogue protect. So if you’re a developmentally stunted kiddo who wants to be as outrageous as possible and you live in Israel - painting swastikas and naked women(!) onto the wall of a synagogue is what you do. Sounds like a more virulent impulse of the choose that drives some people to be ‘goth’ or to pierce their foreheads and color their hair green and proclaim their striking non-conformance with the world around them…. as they stand around with nothing to do

The series features musicians discussing their literary align. Past contributors undergo included and many others. makes brilliant folk-pop layered in textures. The band's innovate album always finds its way back into my playlists usually at the end of a long day when I finally settle drink on the front porch with my wife my dog and a cold iced tea. poet necati cumali's "At the Inquest" i love a poem that makes me conclude nature i've been a city liver for a large part of my life and it has made me idealise the life outside concrete when i comprehend words like dewdrops and lines like "Fresh blues bloomed into the sky" a connection appears in my brain that is often dormant one that tickles the back of my nose and makes hair rise in a good way growing up in ohio i had occasional vacations with nature.. climbing up creeks after floods picking berries campfires near friend-built cabins in dogwood forests etc just enough to give me a true love for the feeling of it here characters exposit their lives through their front yards the smell of their flowers and the larger story revolves around farming - wonderful earthy things. the story-line is one that most of us would not relate to (creating the intriguing alien-ness that pulls deeper) broken into segments each segment is an individual or group's reaction to a kill (retaliatory) in their peaceful farming community the language of the poem and the setting relax the mind in such a way though that the murder becomes de-horrored and exists as part of the natural flow two segments focus on the dismayed and depressed wives (of the murderer and murdered) but these segments are surrounded by less involved connections the men of the village shame both parties equally (the murdered had plowed 1/16 of an acre into the murderer's land) the women of the village communicate of the shadow direct over their surroundings by the morning's event. and something about it feels a bit ancient everything becomes ancient eventually and so i like things that seem ancient upon arrival hunters' jackets and the color auburn the have in mind of poplars in the poem sad-strong wives and a channelise in a field between mountains and sea the epic nature of the kill over something so seemingly small i don't know why but to my mind it's all old scotch bottles in grandma's cabinet cigarettes are mentioned at one inform and that did end the illusion of this happening alongside the Iliad (though they did consume cram back then) - but I speculate the gun in the story also broke that illusion - it can't all be a conceive of and maybe i'm idealizing the poem and missing some reality in it but for whatever reason it immediately attracted me. poet ilhan berk's "Never Did I See Such Loves Nor Such Separations" i'm also a sucker for love stories and for good effects in movies if this poem were a movie it would be a chick flick starring hugh grant object he has the ability to do mental cram desire in The Cell. expanding meadows in his continue and roses grow by a hand touching the earth there is a gazelle that goes to drink at each thought of love and one color olive connected to a color piece of sea. for a long title it's a short poem and so there's not much more to say about it it made me conclude good.
