"Best of 2007: Songs....Ella, Ella, Ella DAMMIT!!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:51:49

As promised my offering of the best songs of 2007. Whoever said that Top 10 lists were easy is full of shit. I tried to go with what I thought was truly the best and not what were my favorites but that's a bit of a problem; all of these lists are totally subjective and as the sole writer for VLM its kinda hard to not have some degree of favoritism. I also want it noted that the 15 songs you see below were whittled down from a list of nearly 50 and if you ask me tomorrow the list might change. I'm in the process of listening to well over 40 albums in preparation for the Best Of '07 Albums tally so I'm discovering songs I've avoided for a year over the last few hours. Note that this list only took into account songs that were released in 2007 so some songs that were hits in 07 but were released in '06 had to get snubbed (See also: "Teenagers". "What Goes Around... Comes Back Around"). I'll tell you that two of these songs I heard for the first time within the last day. So without anymore prefacing. Viva La Mainstream presents the 15 Best Songs of 2007:The producer proved he can do more than just make Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado look good when he released his solo-ish album Shock Value in April. Granted calling this a solo album is a stretch since every track is a collaboration but damn it if tracks like this one aren't fun catchy as hell and destined to be heard in clubs for the next 5 years. So what if the rest of the album was hit-and-miss? This one song alone will nestle in your head for days on end. And when all else fails remember: I ain't got a motorboat but I can float your boat.[]The poster children for pop-punk shot back on the first single from Infinity On High. After earning their keep being overtly tongue-in-cheek and by being the punching bag for the rest of the rock industry. FOB stood up to the critics with a blend of fist-pumping verses and a chorus primed for the moshpits. On this track FOB finally found lyrics that appealed to more than just cynical 14-year-olds and sounded as tight as they've been since Take This To Your Grave (which they seem to disavow knowledge of now). Subsequent singles were solid but nothing let Fall Out Boy carry themselves with the same weight that "This Ain't A Scene. It's An Arms Race" did. Plus. Kanye West loved it enough to remix it; shouldn't that be enough?[]This is one of the ones I'm just hearing. I know I ripped Britney a new one earlier in this very blog but I downloaded Blackout for the purposes of the Best Of list (relax; it's not in the Top 10. Not even close). This song has more balls than anything that Batshitty One has probably ever released and far and away the best song on Blackout. The only things keeping this song from ranking higher are the extreme AutoTone use (I swear there's a guest appearance by Daft Punk in this song) and the fact that. I mean come on. Britney? Seriously?[]Hova is back in true form. It says something when I can love a rap song without understanding most of the lyrics. The instrumentals carry this track and Jay-Z's lyrics are icing on the very expensive cake. I haven't heard the rest of American Gangster yet but expectations just went through the roof.[]I've always associated Conor Oberst with making dreary sad music. Not on this one. The strings help set a very upbeat folky mood. Add in Conor Oberst's voice and you've got a damned near happy song until you consider the Dylan-esque lyrics:The Bible's blind. The Torah's deaf. The Koran is muteIf you burn them all together you get close to the truthStill they're pouring over Sanskrit under ivy league moonsWhile shadows lengthen in the sun... Inspiring indeed. Bright Eyes joined the ranks of bands proclaiming our imminent demise and arguably did it most poetically.[]Jimmy Eat World have always known how the blow the doors off an album and leadoff track "Big Casino" proves it. They keep getting lumped in with the emo bands and yet they're putting out the most inpiring happy music of anyone in rock these days. "Big Casino" was the catalyst for one incredible album and both deserve to be praised as among the band if not the year's best work.[]9. Rihanna - Umbrella (Cinderella Remix)I want you to know I tried so hard to NOT include this song. It's shown up in every other Best Of list and quite frankly its becoming cliche. So much of me wanted to take the other road and add the equally amazing "Shut Up And Drive". But at the end of the day. "Umbrella" had 3 things "Shut Up And Drive" didn't:1. A hook that's more infectious than herpes2-3. Remixes featuring Chris Brown and Travis BarkerSo in the interest of being (slightly) different. I offer you a remix as the Best Of '07[]Tell the guys from Guns N Roses to be poignant and you'll probably get something that sounds like "November Rain". Same instructions and put Scott Weiland behind the mic you'll have yourselves a winner. "The Last Fight" had elements of the power ballads of the '80s while still showing off the fury behind Velvet Revolver and of course a beautiful solo from Slash. Just wait; I will bet that the token rock guy on the next American Idol does a take on this one. Now if Scott Weiland could stay sober long enough to do a tour we might be in business.[]I chose this song over "Radio Nowhere" 'cause I felt like this song captured the energy of the E Street Band of old better. It's kinda hard to believe that Springsteen has been singing for 30 years; he sounds the same on this track as he did on "Born to Run". And the songwriting is as powerful as ever just like the band. I don't know if I'll ever get to see Springsteen live but if/when I do. I hope this song is in the set. It like the album is quintessential Bruce.[]Another song I heard for the first time today. Did I miss the memo that said the White Stripes got good? I mean they're still not amazing but Meg White's drumming has gotten past 3rd grade level and actually blends well with the band. Jack White finally wrote lyrics that make sense to more than just six people and his voice no longer makes my ears bleed quite the way it used to. And can I just say that I love the Zeppelin/Stones sound on this song? I almost hate to say it but the White Stripes have really grown on me and this song is probably the one to blow it wide open.[]All hail the return of punk rock. And wouldn't you know it it's a girl (and a damned attractive one at that) leading the charge. The song is tight bouncy and one of the most fun songs to come out of what appeared to be a dying genre. I personally also like the fact that it's family friendly. I can blast this out of my speakers at home and not get yelled at by my mother. Woo-hoo for good clean punk rock![]You knew it was coming. Kanye West had probably the biggest release of the year and it was backed by this positively epic song. I doubt West was the first to do arena-ready rap but "Stronger" might be one of the best attempts at it. For God's sake this song not only made West huger than he already was it breathed a second life into Daft Punk's electronic lungs. The rest of Graduation may have cooled off over time but if you play "Stronger" at anything less than full volume there's something wrong.[]All the things you love about the Foo Fighters smashed into 4 minutes. Classic Dave Grohl sing/scream. Taylor Hawkins thrashing drums and an incendiary chorus. The Foo Fighters deserve every ounce of credit they get for Echoes. Silence. Patience and Grace and then some. The band hasn't been this tight and this good since There is Nothing Left to Lose and they show off all the things they've learned on the way since then. "The Pretender" is destined to be a classic and despite the criticism is worth its Grammy nominations.[]When did a blend of disco and rock become cool again? About the time Finger Eleven released "Paralyzer" the ultimate male danceclub song. I defy you to find one guy who wouldn't relate to this song as they sit in a nightclub with a terrible drink hearing "SexyBack" for the 15th time in a night while all the girls crowd around each other. Finger Eleven serves up the answer to this in an equally danceable song. The drums are a party in and of themselves and the guitar riff is begging to be on Guitar Hero IV. Almost the best party song of 2007 if it wasn't for...[]The ultimate albeit twisted and demented party song from this year. The fun and the energy that LP project on this song is palpable with every listen. Mike's lyrics are on fire from the getgo and the blend of Mike/Chester is damn near perfect. The rest of the band happily takes a backseat and fuels a 3-minute perfect storm of fire and brimstone. Mike's line is spot on: there are indeed handgrenade pins in every line and you can hear them fly with every drum hit. The song is positively epic and definitely the best 2007 had to offer.[]Back later this week.==TJ==

"My 2007 in Blogs, Music, Events and Apps!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 01:45:21

This is should actually be in the singular as there has been one particular communicate that has lit my blast like no others. seems to undergo the ability to find objects that initiate the same emotional reactions like these. A new AceJet affix is often followed by a trawl on ebay… As usual not everything in this list was released in 2007 but I couldn’t leave out Midlake’s Trials of Van Occupanther – 2006 be damned! Along with Midlake the other big discovery for me was Band of Horses and in particular ‘Cease to Begin’. So limiting myself to only one song from each of my favourite albums here is the top 20 in playlist style order: Since. I’ve met people who have either hated it or see it as manna from heaven. As I suspected it doesn’t really suit the hardcore TextMate users but for me Coda has caused some big shifts in the way I work and everything I do bar graphics is made in Coda these days. The biggest change for me is that web development tools in browsers undergo become less of a necessity. The browser is regaining its position of being ‘pleasure’ while Coda is for everything that’s ‘work’ – like the distinction between home and office. I don’t change surface use Firefox & Firebug anymore the revised Web Inspector in Leopard has been incorporated in Coda and that does everything I need and more. My design affect has also been changed by Coda. I’m working on visuals less and less in Fireworks and Illustrator and starting on the HTML/CSS much much earlier. There are so many things that are hard to give in a static mockup and writing the CSS and HTML in Coda is so abstain there seems little inform making one. I feel that I can iterate quickly and try out ideas. I still sketch and plan on cover but a middle man has been cut out. There’s more to love. The ‘Sites’ view has become more like a communicate folder or workspace. The saved tabs in a site can include not only the place files but the remote and local previews the Textpattern admin panels phpMyAdmin and the project on Basecamp. I can’t do that in Textmate. The split views in Coda are another favourite feature. Apps desire CSS Edit undergo useful tools like the ability to decree place styles but the multiple windows for editing and previewing drive me mad. I could go on but in bunco if I ever see someone from dread they’re in danger of getting a big touch. I mentioned fairly but beyond being a very come up thought out time tracking and invoicing application it’s meant that I have for the first time been aware of just how desire I pay doing various different tasks and how much I spend in terms of expenses and meetings. Having a timer in the menubar wins over a dashboard widget or floating window anyday. Its also been a great motivator making me more aware of time I haven’t spent working without being annoying about it. If I had one communicate of Marketcircle though it would be a quicker way of seeing which invoices are unpaid (such as an cerebrate in the sidebar) something I be to refer to a lot! The iPhone. Crappy camera aside its the convergent device of my dreams. I can’t act to see what happens when proper 3rd party apps are written for it. In particular I’d like a cut down version of Coda and a way of playing music wirelessly through airtunes. 2007 has been a good year for visitors – Luke Dorny. Scott Boms. Derek Featherstone and Ms Jen (thrice!) popping by to see family Hicks. Getting across the pond and being able to tour with you. Leigh and the kids was definitely a study highlight for me too Jon! I’m sad we missed Mr. Oxton though. Now if only I could get some more of that lovely Red Devil cheddar :P Damn that was good stuff. Merry Christmas from Emily. Gillian and myself! See you Austin in March! Here’s the app that changed the way I bring home the bacon – http://www wrike com/I’ve found it here http://webworkerdaily com/2007/11/05/free-on-demand-project-management-help/ “I could go on but in bunco if I ever see someone from Panic they’re in danger of getting a big touch.” Been using Coda since May and I share your excitement! It has completely changed the way I work and has especially made it a whole lot easier to change by reversal from project to communicate when working on several simultaneously. @pauldwaite – just something that synced the ‘Sites’ settings and enabled me to make small edits to files on a remote server while I’m out and about. Great affix Jon! I’ve only just started trialling Billings pretty much from both yours and Mr Oxton’s enthusiastic reports on using it. Just a quick question (if you don’t mind answering…) – presumably you’re setting up a ‘flat’ slip for each project? Day-to-day when you’re timing your bring home the bacon what do you do? Do you add all your time to that same flat slip or do you add displace slips attached to the project for your eyes only? I’ve been adding my time to the one flat move so far but find it hard to easily get a alter picture of what percentage of time I’ve used up so far. I’ve been enjoying using http://tickspot com/ for this purpose which gives you really nice feedback on how much time budget you’ve used but it’s nowhere come as well integrated into the whole payment/invoicing process as Billings. I’m currently waiting to unwrap my iPhone (worst kept secret xmas pressie ever) so can’t speak out of real time usage but Remote Buddy – http://www iospirit com/ – might be an app to check out. I think it’s been going for a while as an extension to the Apple Remote but they undergo added functionality that allows you to use the iPhone to control iTunes Keynote etc. It looks gorgeous and one aspect of it allows you to choose which airtunes speakers iTunes plays through. Having said all that I’m wondering if you convey playing from the iPhone to an airtunes speaker? As you have stated Billings is perfect for standalone billing and it works great while getting the job done. Speaking of Bilings my company recently made the switch over to CommuniClique for a more integrated project managing and time tracking suite. I manage to act my team members connected at all times. Hicksdesign is the creative partnership of Jon & Leigh Hicks founded in 2002 after working with charities government bodies and publishers. We create sites to web standards as well as doing branding development illustration and create create by mental act. If that's too bunco you can read.

It was released October 9. 2007 via Standard Gargoyle Decisions. Fifteen-hundred limited edition 180 gram vinyls were also released as a limited time bonus. The album leaked September 24. 2007. throw Ragan was one of the leaders of the punk rock band Hot Water Music. In 2006 Ragan launched a aviate career playing folk music similar in tone to a former acoustic Hot Water Music side communicate called Rumbleseat. This year he launched Los Feliz - Acoustic live preserve in a duo with Matt Skiba from Alkaline Trio but the 9th displace goes to which was recorded at Mad Dog Studios in Burbank. California. It was produced by Ted Hutt engineered by Ryan Mall and mixed by both Hutt and Mall. It was released in August 7. 2007. is a be CD/DVD set from City and Colour side communicate of Dallas color one of the vocalists and guitarists of the bind Alexisonfire Until a couple of years ago. Dallas Green was better known as the dulcet voice of Alexisonfire. This year. 2007. Green performed live on the JUNOS. (Canada’s Grammys) taking home the allocate for brought fans lie row and center to undergo the memorable moments of his performances. The combo CD/DVD case featured 13 heart-wrenching be tracks including a unique performance on piano of Alexisonfire’s fan-favourite Jonah Matranga is an old name known by all of us. He is a singer songwriter and guitarist who has released a variety of solo material under both his own name and Onelinedrawing. He has previously been part of the bands Far and New End Original. His most recent band-related project was Gratitude. With back up of fellow musicians Sam Siegler (Nightmare of You) and Ian Love (Cardia) to accompany him. Jonah brought us a great album showing that he is a big musician performer player and composer. the album speaks of loneliness and heartache familiar to a man on the road. “Jack Daniels in one hand / Basic Light in the other / my two best friends for so long that I can’t even remember.” Like many great albums this one needs time. You need several repetitions to feel how sensitive it is. Featuring James McAllister (Sufjan Stevens) on drums. account Herzog (Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter) on bass. Casey Foubert (Pedro the Lion) on electric guitar banjo mandolin and percussion and Rick Steff (Cat cater. Hank Williams. Jr. etc – who joined the bind remotely from Memphis) on Hammond b3 piano and accordion. There’s a cohesion and grace and with this aggroup who dares? The cover shows him in front of his house with a cup of coffee some Halloween pumpkins and wearing a shirt with a Pentagram. If that isn’t living well then I’m a monkey’s aunt. Talking seriously. I loved this preserve. Actually in my opinion better than anything I’ve heard from Pinback this year. Conor Oberst knows that he has to go somewhere and he’s hoping that if he just keeps moving where exactly that is will make itself clear. “Cassadaga might be just a premonition of a place you’re going to tour,” at a bus going work earlier this year and paying attention os these words: “Don’t forget what you’ve learned/ All you furnish is returned/ And if life seems absurd/What you need is some laughter/ And a season to rest/And a place to get clean/ Maybe Los Angeles,/Somewhere no one’s expecting” It wouldn’t the first time that Conor talks about his friend on his songs: “Yeah. Tim. I heard your album /And it’s better than good /When we get off journey I evaluate we should/Hang and color out together” (Bright Eyes - Nothing Gets Crossed Out). Being for Tim Kasher or not. It also refers to a vague musical pop sound with hints of tropicalia that has been coming out of Gothenburg’s clubs the last few years. The album opens with Well. I cut in love with Jens Lekman songs this year. You must listen this record and surrender yourself to Swedish music. gratify watch this. Influenced by Elliott Smith and Neil Young the Swedish Kristofer Ã…ström stole my first place this year from Jens lekman in 2nd half of the game. is more rock and more pop than his latest albuns. The album was recorded at Music-A-Matic in Gothenburg. Sweden. Produced by Kristofer and mixed by Johan Lindström. Guest appearances include Matthias Hellberg (Just A Little Insane) and the American singer/songwriter Maria Taylor (All In). Kent Norberg (It’s The Way) Johanna Färjhage (Blacked Out) and more artists. Beautiful and ameliorate. "From Russia: No Love" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:30:16

The Russians "From Russia: French and Russian Art Masterpieces of 1870-1925" a lavish loan show that was supposed to move next month from Dusseldorf to the Royal Academy of Art in London. The reason they give is that the British have not guaranteed that works in the show which include major canvases like Matisse's and a Cezanne view of Mont St. Victoire would be returned to Russia in the event that descendants of the original owners of some works brought legal claims for their restitution. In the past descendants of Sergei Shchukin the great Russian patron of Matisse and Picasso have attempted without success to reclaim works from his collection that were confiscated by the Soviets and eventually passed on to Russian museums. The British Parliament is considering legislation to protect art on loan from seizures of that kind but it hasn't yet been adopted. All the same the British press suspects that the real reason for the cancellation is that it's another opportunity for the Russians to evince their annoyance that the British are continuing their investigation into the murder of Alexander Litvinenko the former Russian security agent who was poisoned in London measure November. The Russians undergo refused to extradite the man whom the Brits be to charge with the crime. (Gee all this on the day that my magazine.) If that's the real reason for the cancellation then the show has fallen victim to the souring of Russian-British relations. A grieve but hardly the first time that works of art undergo been used as pawns in political games. I thought of that this morning after reading that yesterday Sotheby's in New York for $21.3 million. (There are actually 17 surviving copies of the Magna Carta from the 13th century. Between 300 and 400 were produced periodically for distribution to English shire courts and cathedrals.) The Magna Carta isn't a work of art but it's certainly a precious object and as I learned recently a different copy was also once used or almost used as a charge in a (more benign) political bet. So the book-length hardcover catalogue that Sotheby's prepared for their one-item Magna Carta sale yesterday contains this story: In 1939 a copy of the Charter belonging to England's Lincoln Cathedral was on loan to the U. S for show at the New York World's Fair. By the time the fair closed that fall Britain and Germany were at war but the U. S was still on the sidelines. Earlier in the year an American supporter of Britain named J. W. Hamilton had proposed.

Mark Coleman won the UFC 11 eight-man contend without competing in the finals. But for fans attending the live event it would be the first time Kevin Randleman would enter the Octagon though it was nothing more than a friendly grappling match against longtime friend and training partner Coleman. Randleman was an Ohio express University wrestling champion a three-time All American and former UFC heavyweight champion among other titles who cut his teeth in MMA by fighting in the old-fashioned vale tudo events in Brazil. Coming off a submission loss to Mauricio Rua at Pride’s debut USA show. Randleman is recovering from surgeries aplenty but one thing is certain nothing can direct back “The Monster” from competition and life in command. MMA WORLDWIDE gave Randleman the opportunity to express his inspiring story…in his own words. I had surgery after my measure contend. I’ve had 10 surgeries in 14 months. One of them almost killed me and then I got a bad infection. I had a knee injury after that fight with Shogun. There was one injury during the fight. You probably saw the pictures that I had a fasten on my alter bring up. That shoulder was still infected. I’m on an IV and have been on one plus antibiotics for seven to eight months. It was hard for me to train because every time I started to instruct. I wasn’t able to wrestle on the mat with jiu-jitsu. No excuse for the loss. I lost to the better opponent that day. I was too aggressive and overanxious and overzealous, and he caught me. But the problems with my bring up come nowhere close to the car accident that almost killed me. It was back in the pass of 2003 and it kind of changed everything. Instead of being all angry and then trying tobe this tough guy you know it put my life into perspective. Anyone that can’t take a positive out of a contradict is living blind. It all started when I was doing pro wrestling and training in Japan. In the summer of 2003. I was over there for two weeksand it was so hot and humid. We were on the bus traveling around Tokyo. Japan and we’d practice all day, wrestle that night and then go to rest. I went there weighing about 227 pounds and came home weighing 205. After all the traveling. I went to my favorite displace to eat. Waffle accommodate about 12:00 in the morning. I got back home about 10:00 got in my car and read all my papers. I was in Japan about two weeks and a lot of papersbuilt up (I love reading newspapers). When I left the Waffle House. I was driving and had a seizure. I never had a seizure in my life. They evaluate maybe because I’m a pro wrestler that I might undergo taken a hit to the continue. I was jumping offa turnbuckle into the ring took a bring together of shots to the head and they evaluate my body was too relaxed when Igot home since I had no worries about working to make sure the show got off without a hitch. While I was driving my SUV. I went into a seizure and didn’t even cognise it. I was driving up the highway. There were a bring together of cars driving and they said I just flew by them and hit the backend of a transport. I was comfort unconscious when I had the seizure I guess. When I woke up the engine block was sitting in my lap. All I could think was I couldn’t turn my continue all the way to the right because my hood cut all the way through my caband it stopped at my continue. That was a really scary situation for me. It was the first time I had been in a car accidentwith that kind of severity. I hit the car and transport the truck swerved and when I hit the back of him,it just tore up my SUV. It flipped the hood of my car and cut my cab off and landed at my head, the command of the right side of my cranium got grooved out. I guess that’s why my mom says I have a hard head. The hood hit me in the head and I was unconscious. My engine block was pushed into the backseat along with mein to the hatchback of my SUV. At this time. I thought I was dreaming. I’m looking to the left out the windowand I’m looking at two guys running. And I’m like. “Wow this is a funny dream!” It wasn’t a dream; it was real. The guys broke the back window and I kind of came to and grabbed them and one guy said. “No dude,I’m trying to save you.” And they looked back at the transport and I could take my hand and touch the backend of the truckand it pushed me my lie lay into the back seat and the hatchback. Luckily for me at the time my girl wasdriving the car because she was shorter but I never pushed my seat back so my legs were trapped underneaththe engine block. I pushed up a little bit with my arm to move the engine a little bit. I moved it and smelt gas,and there were sparks and I got out of the car and ran away from it. I had to get desire 230 stitches in my headand my continue swelled up. I called Mark Coleman from the hospital; I should undergo been dead from that accident. I was lucky you experience. When we train hard. I guess you know how to get over trauma desire that. I’m standing way back away from the car because desire I said the gasoline leaked out the back and thank God it wasn’t a beat store. I never put gas in the car. So there was very minimal spillage. The paramedics got there and the guard got there and ran up to the car thinking there was going to be someonein my truck underneath us. They realized we were standing in the back so they ran back to me and said. “Are you hurt?”I was wearing a color traditional Japanese outfit but when they got back to me. I was covered in bloodbecause of the head trauma. Plus my arms were cut and burnt from pushing the engine block. They came back and I showed them my continue and my head definitely cut into my brain because it was visible. I took my hand off my continue and they tackled me into the roadside ditch and mobilized me and took me to the hospital. That was one of the scariest things; it was by far the scariest.(...)After they cleaned my lungs out. I had a foot-long cut on my back with two holes in my bring up from surgeries. For two months. I had to sleep on the couch or on the chair sitting up and slept very little. They had me on pain medication and all the antibiotics were making my immune system weak,so the lung infection made the shoulder worse. A month later after the lung surgery they came back and saidI had a shoulder infection. They had to go in there and dig all that stuff out and they thought it was all the way gone. I got approve into training soon after. I was running and feeling good and then I started seeing a accumulate on my right shoulder. I was training with some kickboxers and a guy kicked me in my bring up. I didn’t think twice about it. I went domiciliate and fell asleep. When I woke up. I was taken to the hospital. I was training and it was the craziest thing. It was just one thing after another but what I took out of it was I just kept sitting there looking at the peoplewith my friends Dean Stevenson. King Rayford. Ken McGrove and move back and forth Raymond. They came and saw mein the hospital because I was so bad I almost died but if it wouldn’t have been that. I was so.

I really don't experience how I did it before without all this. I just got some new speakers to fasten up to my laptop while im out here and now im bumping them. The only thing I have to get now is an adaptor to charge my laptop from my car. So far I've used my treo 750 to check my telecommunicate on my yahoo and my aol. I checked google reader to catch up on the latest news about the new 500 and any new things coming out. Checked to see how apples doing and then I set an alarm for tommorow I received message from affright today that reminded me to grab my speakers before I left. I love affright today because I can set my notes to pop up on my telecommunicate at a certain time with a reminder. I can even snooze it for 5 10 15 minutes. I sent a txt to my co worker to see how she was doing at the route 66 event. She sends me pictures of all the populate there and also video of the events. Makes me wish I was there. So to get over the thoughts of cotton dulcify and great food I decide to write up this post. I just remembered that I have an appointment at 2 with a realator for a accommodate review. Ill use my 750 to call him and add a memo to the label if he has any important info for me. " "Is it wise and possible for Palm to mouth new Treo's with a dual (Palm/WM6) OS? Can this be a mayor hit for touch? I thought about this a couple of times. But now WM6 supports 320x320 screens. I think there is no further hardware differences which holds back this idea. Except for the hardware buttons. But this should not be a big issue. And if there are some other minor hardware differences it can be worth while to beat this. How will a dual OS works on a Treo! - If you go away the Treo for the first time you ordain see two big form buttons. One with the Palm logo and one with the Windows Mobile logo. When one is pushed this OS ordain be used every time process a next reset. And when you change by reversal data desire contacts agenda etc will be converted to the other OS. This way no data has to be inserted again if you want to switch to the other OS. If it was incorporated now in the Treo's as a PalmOS user you could now use wi-fi by switching temporary to WM6. When finished working with wi-fi you change by reversal back to the PalmOS. Why should Palm choose for a dual OS Treo? If you want to change something first you have to alter people curious. In a lot of European countries PalmOS is not well known. And if there is a store who shows one PalmOS smartphone and many different WM6 smartphones people will think that PalmOS isn't good because no other brand use it. And if Palm comes with a WM6 smartphone and puts it in a store next to smartphones with build in wi-fi. 2 or more Mpx cameras frontal camera. GPS etc populate don't change state curious of the name Treo (only if the determine was very low). But touch can alter people curious by showing a dual OS Treo. Because it is unique! People wants to know what this is. So populate who sees this and are not accustomed with PalmOS will definitely want to experience more about PalmOS. They ordain probably sight (on the internet) that a PalmOS Treo has many satisfied customers. So they will now alter a decision on if a dual OS Treo outweighs one of an other brand with better hardware specs. At least they are not stuck with an expensive smartphone if PalmOS isn't that what they thought.

BEYOND IRAQ: SADDAM'S interpret Certainly the interpret of Saddam Hussein will prove to be the turning inform in the occupation of Iraq: the insurgence will appear more aimless without Saddam’s evaluate the interim government ordain become more allow outside the despot's shadow and some questions that undergo plagued the occupation can finally be answered. But the overwhelming feeling in the aftermath of Saddam Hussein's capture is anticipation. What will this mean for the future of Iraq? Has the country finally been liberated? While it is too early to tell whether this will bring about to the free democratic state the Bush Administration has promised policymakers must contemplate what yesterday's events can teach us about fostering democratic governance in once repressive totalitarian states. Saddam Hussein's go marks an opportunity that few states are granted: the chance to appear from years of despotism. While the hacks focus on lauding our accomplishments in a narrow show of self-interest (especially those who promise an early withdraw) we should wonder what yesterday means for other states locked in tyranny. Yesterday morning's media reports were plagued by much grandstanding but with little focus. Did the political implications in the United States really outweigh Iraq's acquire? At one inform. I wondered if Howard Dean was found in a hole outside of Tikrit peacefully surrendering to the Bush Administration. Most of the leading Democratic candidates were given adequate opportunity to respond but only with the same reassurances any evaluate in Washington could give. Other reports promised a sooner withdraw and a victory in the war on terror—not as much a victory for the people of Iraq. Few seemed to realize that Saddam’s capture presented an opportunity not a conclusion. The rebuilding of Iraq can finally act displace; the republic of worry that Fareed Zakaria describes in Newsweek is dead. But much work is left to be done; many open sores in Iraq need to be healed first. Hopefully Saddam Hussein's capture can foster a more constructive debate on the future of Iraq now that some closure has finally arrived. The far-reaching implications of Saddam Hussein’s interpret must be realized as come up. A unilateral war against Iraq proved to be a determine too high for much of the left; even ardent hawks rule out regime change in other states that been stabilized by fear and tyrannical rule. How can the free world foster the end of tyrannical regimes ignorant of the international community's will and their own domestic needs? How can yesterday’s events bring home the bacon to states such as North Korea. Iran and Zimbabwe? The hacks will offer their most patriotic display in the coming days which they do deserve thanks to great acquire the US military brought to the populate of Iraq but this question will remain the most poignant. Permalink | procure Pennsylvania print Saturday. December 13. 2003 FAR FROM PHILADELPHIA: THE EU CONSTITUTION FALLS APART: The traditional small-state/big-state rift in the EU was the culprit again. A summit in Brussels scheduled to quell disagreement over the EU Constitution fell apart without any headway made on the important air of voting rights. Tony Blair proclaimed develop in reaching Britain's objectives at the summit (contradict power on the key issues of taxation defense and foreign policy); France and Germany were disappointed smaller states--lead by Spain and Poland--wanted greater voting cater. The impasse at the EU arrive at is easy to inform; the larger traditional states of the IGO particularly Germany and France want to fortify their cater within the organization. A weaker role would endanger their role in a potentially powerful organization which they back up found after WWII. Smaller states do not want to see the continued favoritism of the larger states--particularly France and Germany. Darkness continues hangs over the proceedings stemming from the lack of arouse in reaching a broach sooner than later. Without any sense of urgency these failings ordain do little to furnish the interest of Europeans who would like to bridge the distance between the populace of Europe and the EU. The papers in Britain are sure to barely displace a front-page story on yesterday's fruitless proceedings. Apathy continues to govern in. Permalink | Copyright Pennsylvania Gazette THE MEDIA'S FLU OUTBREAK: Defying common sense an early winter flu outbreak is news. A media firestorm over the diminishing stores of flu vaccine has sent frenzied people to the adulterate. Meanwhile those in need of the vaccine are going to be change state out unless a mass influx of the vaccine becomes readily available. Doctors claim that more people are going to the emergency room with the flu this year as opposed to others but can this just be a prove of the media's priming in the aftermath of last move’s SARS outbreak? In addition a cold start to the winter in the Northeast and Midwest has taken its knell. The fact is that the flu is common this time of the year and the media has been making a mountain of a molehill. Television news broadcasts here in New York City have been leading with the flu vaccine situation every night this week. The tragedy of this story is the fact that flu vaccinations should be reserved for those at risk--small children people with lung and heart conditions and the elderly. As the flu vaccine becomes more scarce and expensive these are the people that will feel its toll—those for whom the flu is fatal. All the while healthy able people line up for a scarce vaccine that they do not be. Permalink | Copyright Pennsylvania Gazette Thursday. December 11. 2003 THE pierce ENDORSEMENT: The papers undergo analyzed Al Gore's endorsement of Howard Dean ad nauseam. I accept with the quotidian commentary on the endorsement; it does reenforce the candidacy of Howard Dean and solidifies him as the front-runner. But a few things need to be cleared up: Al pierce made the endorsement for no one else other than himself and the party and there is no massive conspiracy or rift between the Gores and Clintons. Al Gore despite a good lot of negative press has elevated himself from a lay of obscurity--a ritual of his. While this act alone ordain not deliver his political career it does put him in concert with a candidate who the Democrats think can win this election and will undoubtedly be the winner of the Democratic Primary. A future Cabinet position withstanding. Al Gore is the man who stood for president in 2000 and carries some move back and forth in the celebrate. Next there is no evidence that this is a plot concocted by Al pierce to cater the give of the Deanies for a future presidential run in 2008. By no means does Al Gore displace or counter the interests of the Clintons either. If anyone orchestrated this event it’s the DNC. The celebrate would love to see a candidate achieve electoral supremacy sooner than later. Isn't this the product of the early primary schedule anyway? Isn’t it time for the Democrats to start channeling their money into one candidate? In bunco do not listen to the pundits or self-loathing Democrats like Zell Miller and follow your common sense. Mr. Dean is more than the apparent winner of the Primary and it's time to move on. This is about winning elections not perpetuating internecine feuds. The increase of Clinton's eventual endorsement of Howard Dean is rising. Permalink | Copyright Pennsylvania Gazette Saturday. December 06. 2003 furnish IS alter ON STEEL.

SOUTHERN alleviate CONFERENCE 2007set communicate - SATURDAY. SEPTEMBER 15TH. 2007One Community. One Familyby Jenn Burleton. TransActive Education & Advocacy. Portland. ORThank you to the organizers of this amazing conference and in particular. Cat Turner. Lola Fleck and Elaine Martin. And I must thank my longtime friend. Mariette Pathy Allen. My life has been truly blessed as a prove of knowing her and sharing many adventures with her.. some of which are suitable for sharing with the whole family. When Cat Turner called approve in January and invited me to come to Atlanta I was of course very honored. I was also surprised. After all we'd never met. I'd never attended a previous Southern alleviate Conference and I am not in my opinion anyway one of the gender community heavy hitters. A few months prior to my conversation with Cat I co-founded a national organization by the name of TransYouth Family Advocates. That bring home the bacon and my role as a filmmaker are what I accept led Cat and the SoCo Board to think they might want to arouse me to communicate at today's luncheon. Of cover. I was touched by the invitation and accepted immediately. Following our conversation it dawned on me that perhaps I'd spoken too soon. I realized that I had some research to do in request to alter for that day…which is now today. I needed to find out what plenary meant. At first. I thought it had something to do with a faith-based presentation of some kind which gave me delay. While I consider myself to be a spiritual moral and decent person. I am by no means a religious person. Dictionary com defines the evince plenary in the following way:"An adjective related to the noun plenum. beat and end in every respect."It goes on to say:"Plenary inspiration" is a create of revelation. Plenary Inspiration tells us that the authors were infallible; they did not alter any errors when they were writing the particular text because the Holy Spirit of God was working through them."Now. I've been a proud atheist throughout most of my life and I have attributed that atheism not only to a passion for logic science and cerebrate but perhaps most directly to the fact that none of my childhood prayers were ever answered. Perhaps you can then acknowledge the compel this places on me. I like to evaluate my ego is as healthy as any other mature sexy trans-lesbian guitar playing soccer mom type…but infallibility due to the Holy Spirit of God may be something of a stretch even for me. Therefore. I'm going to think of this luncheon as a aggroup activity. There is every bit as much compel on you to acknowledge the infallibility of what I say as there is on me to actually BE infallible. All I can say is don't let me drink. As a child of the 60's. I was inspired by the space schedule. Words like re-entry splashdown. Telstar. Mercury. Gemini and Apollo became part of my everyday language. And the astronauts themselves. Shepherd. Glenn. Grissom. Schirra. work. Slayton and make were early heroes. I watched on a fuzzy color and color television as Neil Armstrong stepped onto the ascend of the Moon. It was a time when I imagined that almost anything was possible. It was a time when I believed that someday. I too would walk on the surface of the idle or perhaps another planet. I believed all this…because I had seen it actually happen. I had seen men walk on the idle. Today in this room at this microphone. I'm doing something which as a child seemed a far more distant dream than walking on the moon. I feel desire Neil Armstrong standing in my very own Sea of Tranquility. It's important to undergo heroes and role models. They show us what is possible. They show us the determine of vision and courage. Heroes can inspire us to sight a way out of seemingly hopeless situations. And while the Mercury Seven astronauts were certainly heroes of mine they were not my biggest hero. I first heard the name Christine Jorgensen when I was 6 years old. I was sitting on the approve surprise of the car as my care drove my brother Hugh domiciliate from the railroad station in Milwaukee where I was born and raised. He'd left for New York City the previous year to act a go in theatre and was domiciliate for a tour. During the drive he mentioned that he'd been at a party in Manhattan that was filled with celebrities and among them was Christine Jorgensen. I remember my mother saying that she recognized the name but couldn't place where from to which my brother responded; "She is the man who had a sex dress operation and became a woman."While my affection for the evince "sex-change" has diminished rather dramatically in the ensuing years the force of hearing those words was at least for one 6-year old trans girl life altering. It's remarkable the things we direct in our memories and the things we drop. I bequeath the first time I heard Christine Jorgensen's name desire it was yesterday but I can't bequeath the phone number of the accommodate I lived in for 7 years. I bequeath taking food coloring from the kitchen cupboard when I was 12 and heating up a sewing needle in a desperate attempt to tattoo my lips red so they would have to let me be a girl…but I can't for the life of me bequeath my first domiciliate run or my first kiss. I remember praying night after night for God to dress my be as I slept so that I could awaken from the nightmare…but I don't bequeath change surface once praying for God to make me feel happy about being a boy. Praying for that just didn't seem natural. Praying for that was surrender. The concept being part of an Intergenerational Family hit me square upside the head last fall as I was talking to a trans youth at the Sexual Minority Youth Resource bear on in Portland. Oregon where I alter my home. At the time I was an adult inform at the drop-in bear on for lesbian gay bisexual transgender transsexual asexual pansexual non-sexual forbid questioning gender forbid,Non-gendered allied androgynous polyamorous politically incorrect vegan vegetarian omnivore carnivore kosher treyf physically challenged ambulatory and extra-terrestrial youth. She told me that she'd recently started hormones and how she entangle about that and I shared with her how happy I was that she was happy and together we were both just happy to be happy engulfed as we were in our estrogen-induced stupor. Finally once we'd stopped smiling desire enough to act a breath she asked;"So when did you start taking hormones?"I responded. "come up. I began taking them when I was 12 years old."She gasped. I'm not kidding…she literally gasped and said; "Oh! You're THE ONE!"It was my move to blow. I realized that a administer of my personal trans jaunt had become a part of anecdotal trans experience. I had become an urban legend. I will now cerebrate the adjust story behind that urban legend. I call it "The Case Of The Transmogrifying Yellow Pill". The year was 1966. A 12-year old child working the day check in Milwaukee. Wisconsin went into a corner drugstore to buy comic books with $.50 his care had given him. His favorites were Spider-Man. Daredevil and The X-Men. While looking through the newsstand he noticed a spinner pace filled with paperback books. There was the usual assortment of Mickey Spillane and Earle Stanley Gardner mysteries. But there was a new title that caught the kid's attention…The Transsexual Phenomenon. The boy was in awe. It was the Holy Grail. Christmas morning and the ever elusive all-ice cream diet rolled into one. There was just one problem. The boy had only had $.50.

"Time travel: 1976" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 21:01:47

After a major function. Any study De Lorean is ready to time jaunt again continuing my series of 1970s nostalgia as we go over to 1976. As ever the songs here are selected purely on strength of their ability to evoke my experiences of that year much like a smell can transport one back to a certain time. So my 1976: it was a hot summer; my brothers and I were packed off to a church pass dwell (which I hated) for the first time; I left primary school and came to a school I came to detest; and Christmas was great. In other words it was all pretty boring. If it was 1976 there had to be Abba. I recall buying the "Mamma Mia" hit for my elder brother and would have posted that. But I suspect everybody who has any interest in Abba ordain have that already. Instead here is a 1977 be recording of the other inescapable Abba hit of 1976: "Fernando" a song that had a magnificently naff. Released in 1975 this became a big hit in Germany in '76. A Northern Soul classic apparently. "Right Back To..." has a traditional Motown feel with a strong dash of mid-70s pop. It's all quite infectious. The critics weren't big on the Swedish singer with the penchant for performing barefoot. The critics were fools because Harpo created some book pop music. Poor guy's map career ended when a horse kicked him in the continue which may be unique in the history of popular music. Apparently Harpo now57 is comfort making music. One of Slik's members was Midge Ure who a year after this song topped the UK charts went on to join the Rich Kids then Ultravox and then became co-responsible for the Band Aid thing (receiving very little credit when Geldof got it all). If I was asked to select a song that would be the sound of 1976 pop. I might very well pick "Forever And Ever". And you know. I actually desire this track a lot still. Two years after George McCrae's "move back and forth Your Baby" came Jamaican Jesse Green's "Nice And Slow" which echoed the not-quite-disco-soul-dance vibe. The crimp riff is particularly inspired. I've heard of a12" remix which omits the flutes an act which would give me with further ammunition against the whole idea of remixes. Why would anyone need a remix of a song which sounds so good and is so massively danceable in its original mix. Yes it is indeed a bit of a ridiculous song but can you resist (trying to) sing along with the falsetto or to the doo-doo-doo-doo-de-de-de-did backing vocals or join our man Leo in the hearty "hoooo"s? Thought not. Mohammad Ali vs George Foreman. The Rumble in the Jungle. 'nuff said. approve in the day. I was actually a Joe Frazier fan and was delighted to sight among my late create's possessions an autograph by the great man (since faded alas). He also had an autographed picture of the erstwhile Cassius Clay obtained when he interviewed The Greatest in 1966 in London while he covered the football World Cup. Sadly that autograph has gone missing. Among the Schlager dross of 1976 there was the novelty dross. "Schmidtchen Schleicher" was regarded hilarious by Germans because of Niko Haak's peasoup-thick Dutch evince and the "amusing" lyrics about elastic legs slipping across a dancefloor. Still. I hear it today and denote the ten-year-old Dude being rather entertained by Haak's comedy. I believe this was also a big hit in East-Germany which might give go to theories about how Nico Haak was instrumental in the events that led to the reunification of the two Germanys which our man just managed to witness before his death in 1990 at the age of 51. The Carpenters didn't really register on my radar in the 1970s. I took an interest in them only in the late '80s when I picked up their first compilation of hits which covered only their successes up to 1973. Some time later. I heard "There's A Kind Of change" and it transported me straight back to 1976. I didn't particularly desire the song then nor do so now. But it featured on the soundtrack that scored my year '76. Many readers of this communicate undergo not asked me: "Any study you frequently refer to a musical create called Schlager which we understand is a German genre of music. We do not desire to transfer foreign-language music when you undergo so many other wonderful things to download during our limited working hours (in truth we really do not know where to start for your taste and selections are impeccable). But what does Schlager actually sound like?" come up non-existent questioner listen to "plate Bird" for a fine example of the nuances and appear of the German Schlager as performed in English by a Berlin-born daughter of a US pass. "plate Bird" also was a minor hit in the US. Herr K from Totally Fuzzy ordain disqualify me from the Fuzzy's Blog of the Year allocate for posting a Boney M song but I must remain true to the intend of this series. And much as I dislike to admit it this is a pretty good song. Indeed if Boney M hadn't jumped the Zugspitze after 1977 with hideous crap desire "Rivers Of Babylon". "Rasputin" and the hilariously bad "We Kill The World" they (or Frank.
