Whether for plays fundraisers conferences or mixers. TicketLeap has added a new application to Facebook allowing students to buy and sell tickets to on-campus events without stepping away from their computer screens. The Ticketing application launched Nov. 5 is a way to enhance the Events application allowing students to promote events on Facebook and then sell tickets to students. "It's really very easy and only takes a couple of minutes," said Christopher Stanchak founder and CEO of TicketLeap who notes the application was created because the company saw that although there was a way to promote events on Facebook there was no way to buy or sell tickets to the events. The Ticketing application allows users to set up a price for tickets add a ticketing link to an event and notify friends about the ticket sales. Stanchak said. Once the buyer pays for the ticket using a credit or debit card it can be printed right off the Facebook Web site or through an e-mail which is sent to every buyer. The seller is then paid following the event either through a check or Pay Pal."We want to keep it simple so that's why we called it Ticketing," Stanchak said. "It's really just about what we're providing and that's the ability to buy and sell tickets we didn't want to brand it with our company's name. Ticketing product manager. Iqram Magdon-Ismail who oversees the technology behind the application agreed that making the application as simple as possible was important. "Facebook already has a great Events application so rather than creating our own we made an application that went hand in hand with the Facebook Events application,"Magdon-Ismail said."What's even more awesome is the fact that students can use all the nifty promotional tools that Facebook provides to get the word out about their event and then ticket buyers can just buy the tickets online without even having to add our Ticketing application," Magdon-Ismail said. Magdon-Ismail said TicketLeap charges a service fee of $1 per ticket for tickets priced at less than $30 or 10 percent per ticket for tickets priced $30 or more. Although the service fee is usually paid by the ticket buyer the event host can choose to pay for the service fee or the cost can be split. Because Ticketing was only added to Facebook two weeks ago many students are just beginning to learn about the application. Scott Johnson director of the Angell College Center said adding this form of ticket sales to Plattsburgh State's events would be difficult because events on campus involve so many different people. Johnson said that because the ACC is a convenient location for students it is merely an outlet for ticket sales for different organizations including Student Association athletics art music and theater. Johnson said however the College Center is looking into University Tickets another service which was formed to help colleges sell tickets on-line. "It's a lot more than what meets the eye to make that happen," Johnson said. He explained that the use of the Ticketing application would be more up to sponsors of the events.
