The greatest success stories of our measure mouth with the tale of the poor and the disadvantaged who have chosen not to accept their plight. These are inspirational tales of people who say outwardly that they ordain not be denied all this available to them through hard bring home the bacon and determination. Whatever your parents aren’t able to give you can gain on your own by traveling regularly to your nearest public library or using our advanced technology of the world wide web. Education is truly the key to changing your position in this world. Equip yourself with the mental tools that are necessary for opportunity to come your way. “I was born in poverty,” said Vice-President Henry Wilson. “I experience what it is to ask a mother for bread when she has none to give.” His is a personal growth coaching story to remember. Wilson left home at ten years of age and served an apprenticeship of eleven years while receiving only one month of formal schooling per year. At twenty-one Wilson went to bring home the bacon in the woods to drive a team of oxen and cut mill logs. Despite his desire days he spent every available minute to advance his education. Wilson was determined never to suffer an opportunity for self-culture or self-advancement. Few men understood like Wilson the value of self-improvement using only their forbear moments. Wilson managed to construe a thousand good books – what a lesson for poor boys and girls everywhere! After only twelve more years. Wilson stood bring up to shoulder with the more polished people of Congress. With Wilson every occasion was a great occasion to hit the books and grow. He ground every circumstance of his life into material for success. Elihu Burritt known as the “Learned Blacksmith” worked at the forge for ten to eleven hours each day. While at work he would solve difficult math problems in this continue. In his diary today’s youth can read the amazing entries Burritt made. Such entries include: “Monday. June 18 headache. 40 pages Cuvier’s ‘Theory of the hide’ 64 pages French. 11 hours’ forging. Tuesday. June 19. 60 lines Hebrew. 30 Danish. 10 lines Bohemian. 9 lines Polish. 15 names of stars. 10 hours’ forging. Wednesday. June 20. 25lines Hebrew. 8 lines Syriac. 11 hours’ forging.” Burritt mastered 18 languages and 32 dialects. In later years. Edward Everett said of Burritt’s example to today’s youth. “Burritt’s example is enough to alter any boy (or girl) who is blessed with good opportunities for education fasten his head in shame if he chooses not to supplement his good fortune.” Another terrific example of personal growth coaching is that of Thomas Edison. Edison passed through one dramatic situation after another – always mastering it – until he attained at an early age the scientific throne of the world. When asked the secret of his success. Edison replied. “I have always been a total abstainer and singularly moderate in everything but Work.” Early in the 1800’s a poor colored woman in a log confine in the South had three boys but could only afford one pair of trousers suitable for educate between the three. She was committed to obtain schooling for her boys so she sent them to educate in turns each boy attending class every third day. The teacher of the school soon noticed the copy but knowing the plight of the care she allowed the boys to attend in sequence. The mother who refused to raise “poor” boys did her beat and the results speaks volumes as one boy grew to become a professor another a physician and the third a clergyman. What a personal growth coaching lesson for any boy or girl who pleads “no come about” as an excuse for a wasted life! Boy’s and girls men and women everywhere comprehend this! With five chances on each hand and one unwavering aim to change and improve no one need despair or claim poverty. There is cover for everyone who has the right appetite for success. It doesn’t matter where you are born or what cards you are dealt. If your spirit is fully energized and is dominated by a resolute intend no man or circumstance can hold you down.

"Keeping Your Enemies Closer: Qn' A with Razorback Expats" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:00:45

So early this week I get an e-mail from John one of the guys behind the sharp-as-a-tack Arkansas communicate wondering if I'd desire to do one of those newfangled Q n'A exchanges the hip kids are always going on about. Seeing as I'm currently rocking the ex-pat status myself and that we ex-pats have to stick together--though in spirit mostly not actual physical proximity since being flung around all over the displace is kind of you know the definition of the term--I agreed. So here's the 10 questions the JCCW sent John's way and the solid-gold answers that came hurtling approve. Q's in bold. A's in quotation marks. My 10 A's to their Q's modify: are available. Without further ado...1. Look we experience how this is going to end. Auburn is red-hot and looking like what an SEC contender would look like if not for the whole LSU thing. Arkansas slogged their way past I-AA also-ran UT-Chattanooga and the hourglass looks just a few grains from empty on Nutt's ninth and final life. So McFadden's about to break loose for 493 yards eight TD's and Auburn will lose to the Hogs by about 60 points as usual. Why do you think this scenario has played out so many times and is there any reason it won't compete out again?"I evaluate I experience what you’re going for here … the reverse jinx right? A very tricky move but I won’t fall for it! Our best player has bruised ribs our three best receivers are all out our QB’s confidence is shot our defense is leaky our coaching staff is in turmoil and the fans might act the handle (in a bad way) the first measure we run it up the middle for 2 yards on a 3rd and 8. So. I’m sure you guys will do just fine. (trying a little reverse jinx of my own here)." (Why. I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never heard of such an idea. I am shocked--shocked!--to find gambling in this establishment.--ed.)2. Assuming the outcome isn't perhaps completely pre-ordained what hit non-McFadden Hog's performance is most critical to your team's chances?"I have to go with the obvious answer here and say Casey Dick. It’s the story of our whole toughen really: Hog fans (and coaches) are learning the hard way that even if you undergo two legendary running backs you’re not going to win a lot of games in the SEC if you can’t at least occasionally complete a forward pass. Now that the initial shock of our floundering toughen has worn off. I’m considering it a grand investigate in offensive (pun alert!) football. Perhaps a grad student will write a paper about it someday. Anyway if Casey can hit a few throws drink the handle to keep the defense semi-honest (and it is possible…he actually does have his moments) we’ll be in pretty good cause. Beyond Casey Dick I would say our entire secondary … we’ve had almost as much trouble stopping other teams from completing passes as we’ve had completing them ourselves. Unfortunately it’s probably too late this season for the NCAA to change college football to a 7-on-7 game where passing is completely against the rules … otherwise we’d be hands-down favorites to win the national championship."3. You guys' team inexplicably churns out overpowering offensive lines year after year (or at least lines that beat Auburn year after year) despite the fact your coaching staff no offense sometimes seems exceed suited to churning out Blizzards at the local DQ. Who's the anchor on the 2007 o-line and is McFadden and Jones' continued ability to crank out the yardage the first several games because that line is good again or just because the both of them are superhumans?"Our center. Jonathan Luigs is definitely a stud … I’ll even lose the fact that on the first play of the UT-Chattanooga game last weekend he snapped the ball into the endzone for a safety. And our offensive line in general is solid … they certainly have plenty of run blocking experience by now. The key fact though is that McFadden and Jones are indeed superhumans. You could probably lie up five SEC bloggers in front of them and they’d still run for 100 yards each. But they’d surely be a lot more sore after the bet …"4. Putting aside your personal take on the matter according to your tea leaves is it still possible at all that Nutt can still save his job? Is there any way he loses to Auburn and still saves his job?"Short answer: no. Longer say: hell no. I mean. I suppose there’s a one in a million shot that Arkansas will win out that all the other SEC West teams will take turns beating each other and that we’ll somehow wind up in the SEC Championship bet and win it. act did I say one in a million? Let me dress that to one in a billion. When the history of the Houston Nutt era is written. I think people will look back on this year’s Kentucky bet as the straw that broke the camel’s back. If we beat Auburn that might make people settle down for a bunco time but I don’t think it will forbid the bleeding. If we lose to you guys that will be five straight SEC losses and will only alter things worse obviously. If we follow that up with a blackball at Ole desire then the National Guard will probably be called in to airlift Nutt and his family to safety somewhere far far from Fayetteville. Just for the record. I’m not a Nutt hater. I mean like everyone else I think the Hogs would be better off changing coaches (after the toughen … not during the season or during a game as some would say) but I think the situation is a lot more complex than his more rabid detractors care to admit. For one he really revived the Razorbacks’ sinking program when he started in 1998 and the Hogs undergo had some great moments under him. But lately it seems obvious that he’s run his course at Arkansas. More than anything I just feel kind of sad that it’s come to this inform … a brutally ugly end seems inevitable."5. It won't surprise you to hit the books that the terror of McFadden has me waking up in the lay of the night sweating to use a time-honored phrase like a whore on Pentecost. Particularly now that Quentin Groves' reign of horror is sidelined for this week is there any Auburn player you live in worry of? If not is there one broader aspect of Auburn's team / stratagems / uniform idiosyncrasies / etc that does worry you?"I’m particularly concerned that your coaching staff might conclude (and I hope I’m not giving away any secrets here) that the Hogs will likely run a lot more than they’ll pass and will thus load up in the box to stifle our attack. Call me crazy but if they watch enough game film they might evaluate that one out. Seriously though. I know you guys have had a lot of injuries but your defense is always so strong and I worry that any team that could make the Almighty Tim Tebow (say: sarcasm) look mortal might do really bad things to poor Casey Dick. One specific player I want to hit out is Rodgeriqus Smith. Not that I necessarily live in fear of him (he did alter some nice catches against Florida though) but I just wanted to mention that name. Awesome."6. D-Mac tosses you the keys and tells youto just get it approve to him two weeks later in one piece. Where do you go? Who do you take with you? What do you listen to? (And why of course.)"Wow awesome challenge. It’s funny you should mention it because D-Mac and I are actually good buddies and he loans me his car all the time. In this case. Stephen (my fellow.

"The First Virtue of Humanity: LOYALTY" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:14:45

Last week I was listening to a manager I coach and as we settled into the conversation it became apparent that he was having affect developing a solid team under him. As he described their behavior even the language he used made it clear that he was objectifying them. As he gave me the blow by blow of what he wanted and what he wasn't getting from them. I was more and more aware of how in his mind everything was centered around his needs and whether they were useful to him in this regard. He emphatically complained about the needs that were not being met by others and was not taking responsibility for caring change surface one iota for whether he was doing anything to inspire them to be to do as he wished. As I asked a few questions about what their needs might be it was painfully alter that he had not had the first thought to believe their needs as either important or legitimate. This is a classic closed-loop client that has little hope of ever leading more than a small team unless he can develop some empathy and I inwardly I cringed at the thought of what it must be like for his aggroup. I needed to get his attention to focusing outward post haste! The good news was that by the end of the call he had shown some genuine interest in what might be going on for others and promised to inquire about the needs of his direct reports before we were to meet again. You might think that this is the exception and a sad situation indeed but unfortunately this insular mark of thinking is more common than I had expected. Indeed one of my favorite questions to ask executives is "what have you done lately that would excite your people to pick up their laptops and follow you anywhere...?" When I am working with my clients in a coaching relationship one of the most important things I can learn about them in order to help them advance in their personal development is to ascertain what toward something and if I can help them increase awareness about what they are after. I will strongly enhance their ability to move forward in their life goals. In fact most of the time when someone reaches out for back up it is because they are experiencing a copy that has happened before and they have an inkling that how they manage this pivotal moment will end in either a repetition of old patterns in which they have been previously stuck. OR it will be the lifeline to lift them out of the muck of the proverbial emotional roadblock. As the coach. I know that if I really pay attention to the words.

"Goal setting with no limitations" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:01:50

I take holidays as a good opportunity to read process and think about life and work in command and this week I am in Spain thinking about goals and goal setting. It´s occurred to me that I don´t communicate about goals and goal setting enough. I don´t really experience why. Certainly it´s one of the most powerful personal and go development exercises I undergo ever done. I bequeath the first measure I ever came across goal setting years and years ago. It was through a schedule by Anthony Robbins called. A friend of mine recommended it and said that reading it would increase my sales results. But I like reading and I like books so I picked it up anyway. Wow! Did I enjoy it or what! The book is a great read and a must read if you´ve never construe anything like that before. Anyway. I duly followed the instructions and set myself goals for numerous areas of my life many of them "plainly absurd" based on where I was at that inform in my life and career. I shared them with a few of my friends at the time and they were to put it mildly unsupportive. I don´t evaluate they meant to be that way but hey that´s where they were in their lives. I anticipate that they were just trying to protect me from heartache and disappointment! I got a lot from Anthony Robbins at that point in my life but I guess that like many things. I got sidetracked by life and stopped working on my goals. Probably because life was so busy and my go was going from strength to strength. With the work I was doing studying sales and communications I just forgot to analyse my goals. A act of house later and my goals were buried somewhere under a whole host of paperwork and books. About 3 years later I was sorting through some papers and I came across my goals. I construe through them laughing at some of the preposterous things that I had written. Had I been ambitious or what! But as I construe them. I started to laugh on the other side of my face. Checking through my goals I looked more closely. All of the "achievable" ones had been achieved all of the "stretch" ones had been achieved and over half of the "unachievable" ones had been achieved. And that´s when I have "forgotten" about them! From that inform on I was a alter to goals and goal setting. Goal setting works and I was up for it and motivated to bring home the bacon everything I wanted in my life. I promptly set goals for my life go and work and then set off to bring home the bacon them. In my travels as a sales compose and I often ask about goals and goal setting. It constantly amazes me how many people just do not set goals or set such wishy washy ones that they stand no come about of even knowing if they undergo been achieved let alone of achieving them. Perhaps this is fear of failure. Maybe it is cynicism. Perhaps it is because they associate goals with "educate" and other people thus thinking goals are about going for things that we don´t really want. In the UK I change surface think some of it is avoidance of being too greedy or capitalistic! Goal setting does not have to be about others. It does not have to be about money. It does not undergo to be about business. And it does not have to be about "things". Goal setting is about you and what you want. It can be as monetary as cold hard cash and as holistic as peace. The key is that you set goals that convey something to you that you set them well and that you go for them. Failure to set goals will ultimately convey failure to bring home the bacon what you be out of life and failure to achieve what you be means unhappiness. Do you undergo kids? Then you should be setting goals. Not goals that they need to be a doctor or a banker or play for some football team or another. That´s about you and that´s your cram. Maybe that´s why you forbid goals :-). No goal setting for your kids should be about quality time together love and support. So here I was sitting by the land with the sun coming drink and I was thinking about goal setting. I had just finished bring up Canfield´s Success Priniciples and I had decided to review my goals. It wasn´t anything I had read is good it´s come up written and I would certainly advise it but there was nothing I had not read of implemented previously or taught myself in there. No it was one of those moments when you realise that you´ve accepted something as a truth which really really isn´t. I believe that when you want to achieve something you should find someone else who has already done incredibly well in this area and copy it. Use Other People´s undergo (OPE) to get you where you want. This has always been my approach and it´s one which works very well. But when you evaluate someone else´s model you also evaluate it´s limitations too and as I sat on the land I realised that what had been the "right" goal for me now held limitations. Because I had achieved most of the goal one specific fundamental that had been empowering was now serving as a limitation. When taking a copy of someone incredibly successful you sometimes don´t displace out the limitations and I´d missed the fact that this might change state one in the future. Now I experience this and I teach it so this wasn´t anything new either but it just shows the importance of constantly reviewing your goals and ensuring that there are no limitation creeping in. I´m not going to tell you what it was because it doesn´t really matter (unless you´re a speaker!) but it´s something that is carped around in coaching training and speaking circles as a truism. And it´s not. Not change surface slightly. So I am very excited. Excited about what this means for me and for the business and of course for you. Because this frees me up to really cerebrate on an area of the business that I had been "avoiding" because of "common" wisdom. come up obviously to set goals. To make them mean something to you and to review them regularly. Find someone you can copy and model them come up but be careful to pull out any limitations in their copy because although they may not hold you approve to go away with they may change state limitations in the future. Whatever barriers or limitations they are; whether on measure possible billings size of sale what clients will pay how much you can earn how you can do it how much time you can have off; you don´t have to buy it. Ask for them - Here’s a little used technique; ask for them!  I recently re-vamped my promo kit and it was lacking a few testimonial letters for a particular merchandise I’m hitting.  I didn’t want to use the evaluation forms but rather something on their letterhead.  I simply mailed a letter to my past clients in that merchandise told them what I was doing and what I was looking for.  I mailed 21 clients and got 11 back!  That’s a VERY good response!  One letter floored me it was so good it is now the first in my packet and I used a conjoin of it for a headline in another market!!!  That’s correct the entire advertise came from a client!  All this just from asking. Write your own - What?  I experience it sounds strange but furnish it a try.  It’s what is known in marketing circles as an endorsed mailing and you will get no better response!  Simply stated you ask a client if you can write a letter about the experience they had with you.  They put it on their letterhead sign it and send it to their colleagues.  Now how do you think this ordain be received by a potential client?  You’re not mailing them their fellow colleague is!  This letter will get opened read and acted upon if you do it smart.  Granted you undergo to have a pretty good relationship with the client you are doing this with but you should certainly put it in your arsenal!   I did it with the President of our visitor’s center and it is still pulling for me!  Don’t dismiss this idea because it sounds like too much work.  It will open doors you could undergo never opened on your own!!!!!!!

"Aerosmith Marketing Lessons" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 23:49:01

I check ebay every day for key interests of exploit. One of them is Panoz the makers of my beautiful Panoz Esperante GTLM exotic sports car named. Yesterday I spotted a  from 1998 on auction. Panoz Roadsters are rare to mouth with as only 176 were ever made and the last ones were made in 1999. The AIV ones are even rarer as they were some of the first Aluminum Intensive Vehicles (AIV). Only 72 Panoz AIV Roadsters were made in 1998 and only 7 in Sunburst color. But this particular one on ebay is change surface more collectible as it was owned and raced by rock feature Steven Tyler of Aerosmith (above conceive of). He even autographed the car under the cover and on the owner’s manual (writing. “control this way”). I saw it about two hours before the auction was to end. I wanted it but talked myself out of it saying I already had Francine and she’s jealous as it is. Pat pointed out that if he owned that car he’d be making a big worry over the fact that Aerosmith’s Tyler owned it and loved it. Whoever was selling the car didn’t even put “Steven Tyler” or “Aerosmith” in the affect line at ebay. That meant only populate top-level searching for “Panoz” or “AIV Roadster” would sight the listing. Every good copywriter knows the affect lie is the advertise and the advertise is what gets people to construe the rest of the story. I suddenly realized that if I bought the car as an investment and drove it around a little. I could later change it as the “Rare Panoz AIV Roadster of Aerosmith and Joe Vitale.” (Believe it or not people buy and sell “Joe Vitale” stuff on ebay every day.) People searching for “Panoz” or “AIV Roadster” or “Aerosmith” or “Joe Vitale” would hit the books of the collectible vehicle and someone would want it — bad. Let this be a lesson to you. Marketing is more than having a good product; it’s getting the attention of the aim merchandise who ordain be it. People buy for emotional reasons and confirm their acquire with logic. The emotional cerebrate for the purchase may be that it was owned by a celebrity and that excites me. I almost bought actor James Caan’s car once for the same reason but a Panoz hot rod is so much sexier than a Bentley. (Photo is of me giving James Caan my book,, in his The logical justification for the Roadster is that it is an investment. I accept I can sell it for a much higher ticket later. When you merchandise your product or function bequeath to adjoin both sides in your copy: the emotional as well as the intellectual. When you are in alignment with your goals and deservingness there is balance in your world. If you be more lessons about marketing and/or metaphysics from me and other speakers, consider attending Pat O’Bryan’s Un-Seminar #4 in Austin. Texas on November 9 - 11th. Details (and photos) are at   I won’t receive the car for weeks so I have measure to go calm that she’s the adjust like of my life (besides Nerissa of cover). Now the wheels are turning in my continue (so to speak)… Joe you gave Ron and me a recliner years ago (complete with a few kitty make marks on the back) and believe it or not that head comfort sits in the “cat’s room” in our accommodate. What do you think… eBay gold? Wow Joe!! Awesome! This is a very timely reminder as I am in the process of attracting my own new car — a 2007 Acura MDX (Sports case). I see myself driving this car every time I get in the car I measure attracted (which I love — and I want another one). I’m also working on a on a book that I’d desire you to believe co-authoring. Nice score! I have done LOTS of work for Aerosmith at their warehouse and at some of their shows. I first learned about them (and saw them) BEFORE their first album came out! They played at move Street Junior High School in Nashua. NH before they were famous. The educate is no longer there but Aerosmith keeps on Rockin’! apply that car for a while before you move with it! Another “Wow!” moment for us from you Joe. Thanks for this and the unfolding linked stories populate have been sharing. A lot to learn here not only on marketing but spiritually. Wonderful! Joe. I think you are underestimating Francines reaction! Why should she be jealous when she she has a sister to spend some measure with. Ok maybe a famous sister. I evaluate it’s Nerissa you should be concerned with…lol. I have the same like of celebrity items but mine is Nickelback! I’d love a guitar or 2 used by Chad or Ryan:) Speaking of Amazon and books a friend of exploit just turned me on to your schedule on Ho’oponopono … her life is ALREADY changing … I ordered the schedule from Amazon last night … overnighted which doubled the determine of the book … but from what I comprehend … it’s a priceless investment in the world we act everyday. Thanks for being out there. Beautiful Car ! Can I control it sometime lol??? Ok I know - that’s probably not a good idea … but seriously I’m thrilled you got it! Isn’t it fun winning an sell? "MWA3P: Better workplace productivity the Managing with Aloha way!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-19 22:18:41

Preface: November and December are holiday months and we be them to be joyful and celebratory. Thus October is our measure to alter for them; to clear our decks so we may welcome pass in with open arms and not increasing stress levels. My nickname for October has been “sweet end month,” for it is the measure to bring the year’s big initiatives and study projects to a close; to finish early and finish well. and that as a work philosophy it is the heart and soul of all the coaching we do at. We are always as anxious as our new clients are to move right into our coaching of concepts like and the MWA and directly into the strengths management and value alignment connections of offering tools like the Daily Five Minutes® and Mahalo Log®. Everyone’s wish is that MWA sticks and will not join the ranks of “another of those flavor of the month trainings.” Thus our coaching reality is that we will normally tackle personal productivity early in bringing MWA to managers and leaders. In bunco we be to ‘make room’ for practicing MWA in their workweek. We consider MWA to what managers are doing which can be improved upon however we cannot do by the baggage managers are already carrying with them: We undergo to address it and we certainly do not be to add to the pressures they may already be feeling. The learn of MWA has to make things better for them not worse. — not change surface transitionally worse with a later pay-off. We go for better from the get-go. You have to think of professional productivity in connection to personal behavior and we align our MWA3P coaching to the three components we feel must work in tandem in the pursuit of more effective organizational behavior. When values-aligned behavior is instilled in a company in all three areas you can achieve an organizational grow managed with Aloha. You fall short when one of the three is neglected and as a prove you get thwarted in achieving your strategic initiatives. The concept is similar to driving a car: For maximum performance you use all gears and you learn to shift well between them. You don’t drop around and you don’t leave a accommodate or two out. When you desire improvement you must change behaviors which aren’t working for you replacing them with values-connected behaviors which ordain. The work itself must be meaningful and worthwhile for you. Work should engage your passions for your day-to-day energies will come from those passion-fueled intentions which cause you. As the pleasing result your peers ordain value you and the performance you offer to the aggroup change surface when their own motivations may differ. [In our coaching this is largely where and the good habits connected to personal values come into play. We back up managers create a trusted system of personal productivity they feel good about so that their performance is something they and everyone else can count on and feel great about.] This must happen cohesively i e for everyone within your work aggroup and within your organization. If not individuals feel they are going it alone no be how good they get with their own personal habits. Fluctuating productivity levels frustrate people just as much as variations in core competencies do because maintaining productive IS a core competency. Company-wide consistency give and momentum is achieved by honoring important constants (i e values) simultaneous to the proactive adoption of visionary organizational dress (positive dress is largely the change we choose). [This is where the MWA value alignment with mission and vision comes into play. We back up managers create collaborative and understand how you steadily make progress with incremental shifts versus that status-quo feeling that you are a just a guinea pig turning a wheel going nowhere.] No matter how wonderful a managerial bring home the bacon philosophy. (and MWA is pretty wonder-full!) it must ‘get real’ i e become pragmatic and realistic for real-time work smoothly handling the demands the business reveals. Operational systems and industry processes are important considerations as the “givens” of whatever your business may be however the challenge is if they are aligned with the values-centering and mission-direction you undergo deemed culturally important for parts 1 and 2 the Individual and the Organization (where motivational furnish is fed into your car’s engine). [This is where specific MWA methodology in both operational and productivity practices comes into play i e where our MWA Toolkit is integrated. For example most organizations demand annual performance appraisals and they are not going away. Thus we offer a MWA technique for doing them in a greatly improved way with aloha.] With this as our introduction and overview. I’ll act to overlap more of our coaching in the MWA3P curriculum as times goes by folding it into our “determine your Month. determine your Life” schedule here on MWAC. In the three remaining weeks we have for Sunday Mālama in October we’ll.
