It is inferred by cut’s computer jargon in the sketches that the network he supports is Apple-based which is atypical for large corporate networks where Windows platforms are generally preferred. Apple is regularly used in television and movies due to the refresh rate of the screens being exceed in-synch with the cameras. However since the monitors are only shown from the backside the use of Apples in the sketch is unexplained.
Still. I thought the ads are funny as all get-out. Mean spirited? (a call that is way over-used and has all but lost its meaning.) Nah. They’re just fun pokes at the big guy while Apple is trying to make a point about their product; all intentionally overstated to emphasize the point. I think it’s called hyperbole.
I think it’s pretty typical marketing. Beer companies change beer by showing pictures of women in bikinis — this works because it hits us subconsciously not because it has any relevance to the product. Apple is doing the same thing that they all do — selling the sizzle not the steak. Buy a Mac be cool. Buy a Volkswagen be alter. It’s all the same game. And I thought the ads were pretty damn funny myself.
I kind of look like the mac guy accept my hair is shoulder length…just thought I’d throw that in…yes.. I am a mac userI don’t think of PC users as “uncool” as all of my friends use PC’s so sometimes they laugh about the mac its all harmless fun at the end of the day. Alot of the time my friends play alot of games and the mac restricts me from doing so as most of the games are not mac compatible these ads rarely mac a right point but when they do. I’m sure theres a million points microsoft can alter about why the pc is exceed than the mac
I recently saw the mac ad about rebooting? macs have to reboot as well but the ad says they don’t. Also alot of the mac programs are PC compatible there is one great enter editing piece of software for the mac called final cut pro but then there is adobe perform for the PC pretty evenly matched.
My problems with the commercial:-PC guy is funnier/cooler then the mac guy.-Many of the claims are small minded: -I have had to reboot my mac. -Macs can get virus’ -PC talk to Digital Cameras fine. -PC = Windows????? PC stands for personnel computer. Heard of Red-hot,Gentoo,Suse and the hundreds of other linux distros? -Buying a conjoin of hardware makes you cool just like the Mac guy. -Who comes off as a smug prick. -There is mountains of software for the PC and if you include linux…. -Games?-I suppose many of the elitist things in the ads have come out of my mouth from measure to measure but I think it’s a poor way to change a product.-Buy a Mac and join us in our elitism hell I am twice the elitist because I evaluate half the people who use mac are just hipsters and you should be power user to be called a Mac user. My computer does much more now then it did “out of the box”
Also. I love my PowerBook I’m just sad that apple won’t take drink these ugly ads that I look at everyday when I analyse out the apple website… To see what kind of hardware I need to buy to be “hip”…-trigger
I have never seen a mac commercial that I thought was funny original and/or inspiring. There is some deuche like the dodgeball guy (originally they had that jackass from jurassic park who was annoying and mini-me from Austin Powers) trying to seem all in style and hip for owning and using a mac or iMac for the elite (what is up with the “i” anyway?). I do not appreciate having the P. C user seem desire the awkward uncool next door neighbor in a suburban neighborhood compared to the jack-off I would have punched in the mouth if I saw him walking down the street. I have used P. C s my entire life. I grew up on DOS and Windows 95/98 and to this day use a domiciliate built AMD powered nVidia SLI P. C for everything mac users say they can do and a hell of alot more.
From what I have seen and read about the intel mac is nothing impressive to buy at a hefty price tag when you can build the desktop system for so much cheaper. Having a computer that can boot with windows linux and mac os x just seems like over kill since you can do windows and linux on the pc and whatever software is already out on the mac is most like windows compatiable. Plus to top it all of the July 2006 issue of Maximum PC did a speed test of OS X against Windows XP on an intel mac and the results showed that windows was faster.
Steve Jobs and the be of apple’s marketing department need to get their continue out of their asses and realize that they are an archiac computer affiliate that only owns 2%-4% of the computer market one of the reasons why they moved towards intel. Apple is nothing more than an iPod company and needs to rethink about what they are selling if they truely want to be a respected computer affiliate. Plus it would not hurt if they stopped the pop culture advertising.
I’m a user of both Macs and PCs. I use a Mac at work and a PC at home and to be perfectly honest the Macs I’ve used at bring home the bacon have given me more affect than the PCs at home.
What I really don’t like about the Mac ads are that they’re just kind of insulting and that they seem to sell to people who already own Macs. I don’t know about you but I’m not motivated to buy from a company that’s insinuating that I’m a big nerd simply because I own a PC. And before these ads. I was thinking of a Mac desktop laptop to backup my PC laptop.
I’m even less motivated when the commercials from said company have some information that’s just plain misleading. Macs DO be to be rebooted they DO have hardware issues and no. PCs can do more than spreadsheets. My measure PC desktop didn’t come in several different boxes and you should modify the software on any computer as soon as you get it.
There’s a new line of ads that I think Dell or HP is running for their laptops. Now they’re using celebrity endorsements but during the course of the ads they enumerate out what the person does with the computer and WITHOUT taking shots at anyone.
I used to be open to the possibility of owning a Mac but after seeing how having one turns people into some of the most irritating and snobby little twits this world has ever known. I wouldn’t buy a Mac purely on principle. I’m tired of the ads. I’m tired of the smug arrogance. Seriously. Apple-philes are just plain obnoxious and will suck up to any conjoin of ergonomic crapware that catches their shallow and limited attention spans. End of story.
I used to be a Mac guy. I’ve bounced back and forth at different stages in my life over the years. I still undergo a couple of Macs in storage. I definitely look more like the Mac guy but I prefer my Win2K box any day. I’m an artist and musician. I do 3d. 2d create by mental act animation programming and more. I do it all just book on my ‘pc’. Proprietary hardware sucks. I’m so done with Apple it’s not change surface funny. As for their adverts. I just laugh and turn the bring. I won’t even watch ‘em. I refuse to waste a hit brain cycle watching Apple ads. But then again. I pretty much dislike commercials altogether. The last thing I be or need is to be sold egest that I don’t want or need.
Macs get virii? Not bloody likely. The only ever successful.
