"how much do you spend on scrapbooking each month?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:49:45

I started with nothing learned that you don't have to have all thsoe fancy pricey tools and embellishments to make fantastic layouts! I started a blog about my personal creations (scrapbook-layout-ideas in my profile) But I have noticed SB stuff has dropped drastically in price these days - maybe cause it is more disbursed to more stores now. But still do you spend alot? What do you usually spend it on? What is your favorite things to buy!? They make great stocking stuffers if you have a scrapping friend! I do zip zero nada NO scrapbooking but don't even ask what I spend on those neat supplies. My favorites are pens of course especially the glitter gel pens in rainbow colors. The other favorite things are all the repositionable glue sticks and double-sided tape and that sort of thing. Oh did I mention markers?! They have of coming and going with those supplies don't they? Sam's Club has a lot of that stuff this year but we are fortunate enough to have a BigLots store near us. We've been shopping that store since it was MacFrugals anybody remember that? Nana. I can just see you loading up your vehicle with all those bargains! We used to have to make a run up to Las Vegas to shop at BigLots until one day they built one right in our own dinky little town just a mile from our home. We both squealed for joy when we saw the sign going up. Now we notices a few of the dollar stores are starting to get some of the scrap booking supplies but not like BigLots. I love scrapbooking. I got involved in this about four or five years ago. At first I was spending a fortune trying to buy what they had in the stores until I realized that I had different things around the house that I was throwing away that I could use and would look just as nice in a scrapbook and would cost me nothing. My sister gave one of my little one's a doll that came with a big key on it the children didn't want the key so I scooped it for my scrapbooking. I am sure for something like this I would have easily paid ten dollars for in the store. I love all the embellishments but they are so expensive in our area as there is only one store that you can buy anything like that at. YOu found the secret! I learned it that way to. You can read about this and other tips and suggestions on my blog about my own layouts scrapbook-layout-ideas blogspot com (link in my profile) There is so much to scrapbooking that doesn't cost money! My favorite is the pull tops from soup cans to use as "pulls" on an envelope! I love those! Add some fiber and other things and it is just the best! I have gotten most of my scrapbooking stuff as gifts. My sister scrapbooks and got me started last Christmas. I really want the alphabet punches. I will have to add those to my Christmas list because I have had such a hard time coming up with stuff that I want this year. My favorite thing to buy is paper. I love the fact that you can buy the sheets individually in all kinds of designs and colors. I already picked out some pens and punches for my stocking. I really need to start scrapbooking again. I keep meaning to get my stuff out but my daughter is in to everything and my papers would end up shredded and written all over! Before she was mobile I would sit on the dining room floor and do it but that is not an option now! We haven't replaced our dining room table since Hurricane Katrina. I am thinking that maybe we will with tax money this year. I have bought way too much stuff. but I make lots of things and sell on ebay plus doing lots of gift albums. Recently my granddaughter who just turned 7 showed and interest in scrapbooking so she comes over often and works on her ongoing book as she calls it. she made herself a paper bag book/album too and was so proud of it and did a very good job on it. I spend about $20-30. Have they dropped in price? the local scrapping stores in my country still sell pricey branded stuff from fontwerks heidi swapps my mind's eye and making memories just to name a few 'international brands'. my favorite things to buy are probably patterned paper cos they form the backbone of a layout and can be cut up to little pieces to be used in various layouts.:) i also like stamps cos they can be used over and over again my best investment to date seems to be a set of clear alpha stamps. prices have dropped drastically since the craft stores have picked it up so enormously. The 2 local SB stores here closed as athey couldn't compete cause their prices were much higher. I love the times when Joannes has the papers 6/96 cents! and that 40% off coupon is wonderful for the larger priced items. Even dollar racks at like Target and other stores they all quite often have dollar scrapbook stuff. Just keep your eye out of the sales and you can do quite well for very little. When I first starting scrapbooking and really started building up my supplies. I could easily drop $100-200 a month. Now that I have tons of stuff. I am really more fruggle with what I buy. I am trying to use up the supplies I have before I go out and get more. So now I end up spending anywhere from $0-20 a month and usually just on things like adhesive. Although I now have a whole room for stuff (I used to have a corner in the livingroom) it's already full. I go through phazes of things I like to buy - it's been paper stickers buttons metal embellishments flowers.

"Flutterby Butterflies" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 20:45:11

Well here it is my "dart contend" #3 card. I am actually quite surprised at how quickly I did this card (it only took me 10 or 15 minutes which is a personal best for me. I think!). I was really under the gun to get this one finished for Devan. I have been sending packages to him while he is in Provo at the Missionary Training bear on. There is a little displace (thanks. Mailbox Express!) that would same-day deliver a case up to 25 lbs. to the MTC from here in flavor Lake for $10.50 but you have to have the package there by 11:00 a m. I had been working on a scrapbook of family photos for him to take with him to Germany (he leaves Monday. September 17 - TOMORROW! - for Munich!) I was running out of time but I wanted to consider my newest butterfly creation so it had to be quick! Since he is leaving tomorrow measure Friday was my LAST come about to get this to him (they don't do the same-day packge thing on Saturdays). To act the butterflies. I first used a brayer with SU's Pumpkin Pie spectrum pad. I brayered the color onto some vellum. Next. I stamped the butterflies ("Flutterbys") using black fashion ink. I then embossed them with clear embossing disintegrate and cut them out. I love how you can see through their wings! The background is fill in while the sentiment comes from Fundamental Phrases. I cut the card into a go cause using my new circle cutting system from Creative Memories (which I also like!!) Isn't the ribbon just the cutest?? One of my friends sent that to me (I just wish I could remember which one so that I could properly give her credit! I must be getting old-er!) I thought it went just right with the butterflies! I am comfort trying to get used to taking photos in my photo box using my Ott-Lite a bit of tweaking still going on my part! I do like how well the colors show up with it though. Garden color really looks like Garden color as the Pumpkin Pie really DOES look like Pumpkin Pie!For the scrapbook. I tried to keep it really alter and simple. Each two-page move is accented with the "Rough Texture" jumbo go around and a one-inch take of Real Red cardstock. The page on the left-hand align had the name(s) of the people featured in the layout (in this case it just says. "my girls" because I didn't have enough room to include everyone's names! I used the Jumbo depict Alphabet (which is AWESOME. I might add - LOVE it!!) It is kind of hard to see the words here but I was in a hurry to take these photos! The page on the right-hand side contains one of the definitions from "Define Your Life" with its accompanying letter from "Defining Alphabet." Did I ever mention that these two were my FAVORITES!! I used a TON of those stamps in this scrapbook (a total of 20 stamps - lots to alter!). It was really really fun!! This first picture was taken when Devan was 11 years old. He is surronded by his cousins. Emily and Alisha and his Aunt Laurie. These are Devan's cousins this was taken the morning he left while we were taking photos after my niece. Andrea got married (congrats Andrea and Dan!). Aren't those girls just beautiful??? I think he will tell all of his new friends in Germany that they are his girlfriends!! I wish the photos of this scrapbook had been taken in my new photo box but I was really. REALLY pushing my luck with the time (it was about 10:30 a m when I took these which gave me less than 30 minutes to pack and label the box and get it to the courier on time!)
