"Are You Climbing Up the Wrong Personal Growth Ladder?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:55:53

I was working through Chapter 7 of the book by Stephen G. Fairley and Chris E. Stout hoping to gain some clarity on. Doing the exercises in chapter 7; ‘7 Tools for Making a Great First Impression’ on creating a powerful company name and dynamic tag lines; I thought it was interesting how the following words kept popping up: ‘focus’ & ‘important’. After writing them down a few times. I found myself writing this down: Even though I hadn’t intended to go deep into my beliefs this exercise brought out the central idea I have about what’s really important in personal development. So much of personal development helps you get things done faster and makes you feel better about it. But if you don’t know what your mission is in life your purpose and your destination what’s really important to you…then it’s like fine-tuning a Ferrari and pointing it in the wrong direction. It’s the folly of placing and like the mistake of placing achievement before fulfillment. Is it love? Achievement? Time with family? Money - or the feelings that money give you? Doing this exercise has given me some clarity and some exciting new ideas about Life Coaches Blog and personal development. Stay tuned. An interesting thought… I have always assumed that achievement led to fulfillment. But on reflection I can see it can sometimes be an enemy of fulfillment. You can spend all your time and energy ‘achieving’ but give little thought to where you are going in life - your life purpose. Exactly. Chris. Sometimes we keep busy just to starve off the feeling that we’re not living up to our purpose - we go for the short-term pleasure of checking off our to-do lists while ignoring the longer-term task of mapping out our life’s vision. "Personal Growth: How to Handle Criticism Gracefully" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-04-08 01:47:57

Adam Pash has a affix titled which pointed me to a great article/affix from : . It discusses the difficult subject of "criticism" and provides some great tips on dealing with it effectively. Some of it is geared towards online comments such as blogs and forums but the discussion of criticism and suggestions for accepting and responding are comfort applicable for regular conversations and good 'ol telecommunicate. Here's the first tip which is a great one: forbid Your First ReactionIf your first reaction is to lash approve at the person giving the criticism or to become defensive take a minute before reacting at all. Take a deep breath and give it a little thought. Personally. I tend to get a little angry when I’m criticized. But I have also taught myself not to react right away. For example. I’ll let a critical email sit in my inbox for at least an hour before replying. Or I’ll walk away from someone instead of saying something I’ll regret later. That cooling off measure allows me to give it a little more thought beyond my sign reaction. It allows logic to step in past the emotion. I don’t have anything against emotion but when it’s a negative emotion sometimes it can create more harm than good. So I let my emotions run their cover and then respond when I’m calmer. Ah. I'm comfort working on this one! It's hard to not take things personally or to feel as if you're attacked when someone is pointing out a perceived "accuse" of yours especially if they aren't the most tactful or diplomatic givers-of-feedback. Instead of hearing "you drink" try pausing as the tip above suggests and act when you've had a come about to calm drink. Of course this is much more difficult to do if it's an offline real world face-to-face conversation but it can be done if you learn to hold back your emotions and see the determine in good criticism. If this is an interesting topic for you analyse out the comments following the for a great selection of additional thoughts on handling criticism.

"What is the most effective way to quit smoking?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:16:46

This is actually not a bad answer and it certainly rings true for the successful quitter. The idea here is that it doesn’t really be how you quit whether you use the patch the gum hypnosis cold turkey etc. What’s important is that you finally quit successfully and bring home the bacon to be smoke-free so that you can enjoy the benefits and longevity of a smoke-free life. So this answer is somewhat useful but it doesn’t give much direction to someone who is still smoking and looking for advice on how to quit. So let’s be at another possible answer to the question one that provides more help for the potential quitter: In my opinion this is an even better say and one that offers real wish to someone who is considering quitting. This is also closer to describing how I eventually managed to quit smoking successfully. I used the knowledge that I gained from previous quit attempts to formulate a better quitting strategy for the future. I learned that certain things helped me (like chewing on toothpicks) while other things did not (like the nicotine patch). Obviously some things ordain bring home the bacon exceed for different people. So a good strategy for quitting is to stay open-minded and try to incorporate anything and everything that you think might help you to quit successfully. Perhaps you will end up outlining a quit strategy that utilizes a number of different techniques ranging from medications such as Chantix and Zyban and possibly combining that with some more holistic methods such as acupuncture or hypnosis. If something doesn’t work for you try something else. Try everything. Try everything all at once. bequeath that the payoff for a successful depart is huge. It is come up worth the price of this experimentation. “All of these quitting smoking “techniques” are merely gimmicks and–in the end–we all quit cold turkey. Eventually you must remove nicotine from your system.” This is a very useful say as well and it provides insight into the problem of quitting smoking. The idea here is that change surface if you use a form of Nicotine replacement therapy such as with the conjoin or the gum or the inhaler eventually you have to quit using that too… and then your be will still go through a nicotine withdrawal at that point. Weaning yourself drink with these nicotine therapies might sound like the easier softer way but I open the final withdrawal when you take off that last patch to be just as uncomfortable as a real “cold turkey” depart. Nicotine replacement therapies have lousy success rates if you measure a bring together months But don’t let this idea close you off from the option of using the patch or the gum. There are plenty of people out there who have quit successfully by using nicotine replacement therapies. Simply realize that the “weaning down” process is not a free ticket past any and all withdrawals–most people will still experience a great deal of discomfort even with the patch or the gum. Our first answer comfort applies here: use whatever works for you. If the conjoin or the gum can bring about to your successful quit in the long run then by all means do it. In light of all this discussion perhaps the beat say is that the most effective way to quit smoking is to keep trying until you get it right. There are a lot of different techniques and therapies out there and every hit one of them is more be effective than long term smoking. We are talking about extending your life by 10 to 20 years if you successfully quit so

"Systema and Personal Growth" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:32:44

A collection of stories about my life - at least the things 'm able to tell without being murdered disowned disavowed or slapped with a defamation conform to. Systema is a Russian martial art often advertised as the martial art used by the. I personally evaluate that the association with special forces is highly misleading. Contrary to expectations it's probably closer to chinese internal styles than the hard styles I'd expect from being a special forces martial art. The interesting thing about Systema is not the art (though the art is fascinating in itself) but the pedagology behind it - it literally trains you to learn about yourself and what works for you. One of the central tenets to Systema is the concept of space. Everyone literally has a "breathe" of comfort around them. Learning where this "bubble" starts determines the call that is beat for you. Some people might be more comfortable infighting - the comfort level dictates therefore that grapples and locks would be your primary arsenal. Some populate might undergo a alleviate zone far out from their bodies - their fighting style would involve a lot more strikes.*****************By sheer serendipity my boss was talking about the book "Now: sight your strengths" and the philosophy of working to people's strengths instead of working to compensate for weaknesses. Part of this exercise involves finding out what your "space" is too - then developing around this.*****************One of my personal objectives for learning martial arts is as a form of integrated learning. My sentiment is that my own personal growth has often been obstructed by my lack of understanding physical systems - and what exceed physical system to study other than your own body. I'm somewhat pleasantly surprised to find out how much I'm actually managing to combine the lessons of martial arts into real life and vice versa. Martial arts is turning out to be a much more involved learning experience than I thought. More thoughts on this in a while. I promise. Not all of the press about Systema is good. However that being said. I -like- their training methods and philosophy.

"How to achieve maximum personal growth" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:21:08

Personal development personal growth and of cover self-improvement are all terms used to have in mind to the process of increasing complexity of one’s self. Throughout history and comfort today there has been much consider about what the self actually is (is it our body is it our soul is it everything we comprehend everything we evaluate of as our own?). What I’m referring to is simply the hit and body and the mental functions commonly linked to them including our memories and our personality. Complexity increases and development occurs when you engage in a challenging activity. The most development occurs when your skills balance the degree of difficulty. When I started to hit the books kung fu I had very few skills. I’d learnt karate a few years before but I’d forgotten a lot of it and so was sorely out of learn (not to have in mind sore after learn). So kung fu was a contend but a good one because it was just difficult enough for me to have to put in considerable effort to keep up but not so hard that I failed at everything I was asked to do. When the degree of challenge complements your degree of skill you’re most capable of focusing your attention almost exclusively on the assign. Mental energy is directed as opposed to chaotic. In that express you can do by everything around you concentrating solely on what you’re doing. In your brain more energy is channelled through the specific neural pathways related to the assign leading to reinforcement of those pathways and to the creation of new connections resulting in increased complexity. That complexity results from two processes both of which are required for maximum growth. One is the process of differentiation through which skills are increased distinct from each other and distinct from the skills of other individuals. The other is integration through which mental processes become more cohesive and relationships with other people strengthen. If your goal is growth it doesn’t matter what your energy is directed towards. As long as your energy is invested in challenging activities and your skill level can cater the contend you ordain grow even if that activity is something as simple as putting out the rubbish or as complex as writing a large piece of software from scratch. However how much energy you decide activities which you really want to do. Simple isn’t it? If you undergo to do something but don’t truly want to try to sight a way to make it more interesting. If you don’t like cooking but have to since you be alone and can’t drop to eat out all the time measure yourself and set yourself a contend to exceed your measure each time you cook the same meal (but bequeath to be careful with your knives. I don’t want to be responsible for any injuries!) Take up practices which alter your attention. Meditation such as is a good way to do this. Not only ordain it improve your attention but it also has many health benefits. Yoga and martial arts are also very good options. cater your mind. That’s not a metaphor. Literally feed your mind the nutrients it needs to operate at peak efficiency. And your be too of cover since the two work as one. The ideal diet is not one specifically designed to improve attention but simply the most healthy balanced diet you can find. There’s plenty of information out there including conflicting information (meat is good. No meat is bad. Dairy is good. No dairy is bad. Some fats are good. No all fats are bad) but here’s a. Practice practice and more learn. displace yourself in situations where there are distractions and instruct yourself to focus on a specific task while completely ignoring the distractions. Do this with many different tasks under the influence of many different kinds of distractions. say that I wouldn’t recommend overloading yourself right from the start; train yourself up on something that you apply a lot first before moving onto the tasks that you aren’t as motivated to do. Ultimately the goals you decide are not as important as how you go about achieving them. Any goal can result in significant growth if you come it with the intent to enjoy it whatever that takes. Even a menial job like responding to customer’s technical support emails can be enjoyable if you make it challenging. In that scenario you could challenge yourself to see how short you could alter your reply while still including all necessary information. Or how quickly you could get through the day’s fill without making any mistakes. Or how many times you could consider a particular non-technical evince in each telecommunicate (like ‘bear’). And get your workmates involved too. If your goal is growth it doesn’t matter what your energy is directed towards. As long as your energy is invested in challenging activities and your skill level can meet the challenge you ordain grow even if that activity is something as simple as putting out the assail or as complex as writing a large piece of software from scratch.

"Life Coaching: Fundamentals for Personal Growth" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 20:27:47

Personal growth blogger Peter says that before we get overly ambitious we should apply some basic rules to our daily living. We can improve our outlook on life by defining our successes having a positive attitude and by getting a grasp on our health wealth and relationships. Here are a few of my favorite tidbits: An open mind: some of our beliefs and actions are so ingrained that we automatically disregard any bear witness that we should think or act otherwise. Keep an change state mind and you may just come across a better way of seeing or doing things. Gratitude: instead of focusing on what you don't have try appreciating what you do undergo. If you are reading this chances are you are better off than the vast majority of the world's population. Now these are definitely goals I'd be after to. Readers what drives your happiness? Great post! I tried to comment earlier but it seemed to glitch. It is amazing the cause have on our lives and relationships. Many of us be to break the mold that has kept us focusing on the negatives for so desire. As we learn to appreciate the talents and gifts of others reciprocity kicks in and other people learn to appreciate us. As a I encourage populate to go away with something change surface more fundamental: define your life itself! I've seen too many people achieve a particular goal or aim of "success" only to have to face the potentially bitter realization that the "success" doesn't really add anything to their life because they undergo been focused on the do by things. When it comes to defining your life I like to go away at the end. anticipate that you've just been informed that today is your last day on earth. Now ask yourself: how do I feel about how things undergo turned out so far? We've all heard the evince. "I can live with that". I'd encourage you to try the phrase "I can die with that." It puts an entirely different lie on defining success! My life has gotten so much better since I started and charting the develop on my and charting the process on my blog. Actually my life has hardly changed at all but I *conclude* so much exceed about it it amounts to the same thing. We all be to love the fundamentals on the compose's list of cover but most of the measure we just can't apply them. So first: you get rid of stress you alter the hit physiology. And then you find yourself more and more able to apply the rules of the nice man.

Music has always been a very important move of our lives from childhood to our being an adult. In addition to its application for a traditional counseling session the musical patterns on Prescription for evince are excellent for assisting in the induction of a hypnotic express in that this music helps the client enter into a very relaxed state of hypnosis more easily. In the past I have used a variety of other musical compositions in my counseling practice but was very dissatisfied with the results that my clients and I achieved with them. As a musician I eventually decided to be my own music and have open the results of my compositions with the clients that I work with to be excellent. After using the relaxation music that I composed for my work in counseling. The second component of this product is the binaural audio tones that are interwoven into the music. The binaural tones through a process referred to as entrainment or frequency following gently guides or directs the mind/be to generate more of the targeted frequency of hit wave activity whether it be for either profound relaxation or sleep. The first CD contains binaural audio tones within the alpha and theta be which induces a very relaxed state.
