"To The New Yorker--all my love" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:56:30

Nobody needs another tribute to the utter definition of a venerable magazine. It's been around since 1925 everybody's heard of it and probably has an opinion on it and it's even got it's own hater blogs (which I will not link even though the one I read was pretty funny). And yet I love it passionately. It's the only magazine in my life; it's the only magazine for me. I really don't think it's a strange choice for my sole subscription though I get occasional comments: why don't you read a or a magazine more relevant to or a so you wouldn't always be mystified by what's going on in the world. These are all valid suggestions but they are made by people who don't read the way I read (like a lunatic) and who have room in their lives for more than one periodical. I don't. I don't like to skim. I don't like to skip and I don't like to miss anything. If it's worth reading to me it's worth reading the whole bloody thing. If I took a daily newspaper. I would probably have to quit my job and devote myself to it full time. One New Yorker read in full earnestness takes about a week of trips to the gym if I keep up my cardio if I don't miss any days. And that's what I do. Not because I am insanely obsessive although I am but because I love it. I grew up with the New Yorker. First I just read the panel cartoons then I read the movie reviews then I started into the prose and I've never looked back. If you are going to let any mag filter the world for you better pick one with high standards. Two of the stories on my top-ten list a few weeks back I originally read in the New Yorker--Haruki Murakami's "Sleep" when I was just 10 or 11 and had no idea whether Haruki was a man's or woman's name or if what grownups did at night *wasn't* eat chocolate and read *Anna Karenin." I pretty much hoped it was. If you start early enough with any reading material it will form it's own ideal reader (this is true of just about anything. I suppose; it's how you explain families). I love the New Yorker because I know the people who write it and I care about what they say and actually what they are up to. It's been more than five years since I got my own subscription to the magazine; that's the point at which I felt up to committing to every word pretty much the point from which I date my adulthood (semi-facetious). But now I *know* these people because I read their thoughts on movies and music and Iraq and whaling. I really care about criticism of the next book because he was so dead-on about the last 12. And I don't follow baseball except when I'm actually at the dome but I read all of commentary and I sort of follow. Tunnel vision not ideal broader horizons don't have to read every capsule review blah blah blah. Someday. For now it could be. Let the last thing that I give you be a smileRRI don't know

"For the Love of Cotton" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:16:56

As you know. I'm both a knitter and crocheter. When I first learned I was buying up every yarn I could find. In the last few years I've refined my tastes and come to realize that I love to knit with cotton. I love the feel of it the versatility the way it accentuates a stitch copy. I love everything about it. I love that it is. There is evidence of cotton fibers in Mexican caves from over 7,000 years ago! in 1350 described cotton plants as "a wonderful tree which bore tiny lambs on the endes of its branches." When I went to the fashion store over the pass ALL the yarn was on sale. All of it. Man I hate it when that happens. You experience I had to buy some right? So I went around picking up my goodies and when I dumped them all in the basket guess what? They were ALL cotton. I honestly hadn't noticed. I had and the incredible. I only just discovered this yarn and I already love it. It's incredibly soft and a joy to work with. I started this afghan with for a friend: This conceive of doesn't do it justice. You undergo to conclude it to really appreciate it. This ordain be very hard to give away! The colors are macadamia (lighter shade) and pecan. It's a standard chevron fasten pattern and goes quickly. I also started this hat as a gift as well: It's a stocking cap cause and it's still waiting for ear flaps and a few pom-poms. :) It's a pattern from the pass 2006 issue of Vogue Knitting. I used a combination of Bernat Cotton Tots and which is a like acrylic blend. The two yarns bring home the bacon well together. I be to work on making my stranded knitting a bit looser as the hat seems to alter around the snowflake motif but I'm still pretty happy with it. I wish to make some mittens to match. So I'm rolling with my hand made gifts! Once Thanksgiving is over I plan to really impel it into gear. I've made a list of potential gifts to alter and it grows every day! Have you seen ? I've never done applique but promises it's easy so I think I'll be giving these a try. They ordain make great gifts! And before I sign off here is a sneak peek for my swap partner : Winging it's way to Germany right now! I'll reveal the whole thing soon. It was so easy to alter and I'm sure to alter one for myself! I had a serious "ah ha" moment concenrning those crepe cover pin wheels. undergo a fab day!Rebecca I love the snowflake pattern in the hat! I evaluate I need to take some more classes! It is so fun to be at all the yarn they undergo these days. They seem to really be improving the color variety and fiber content too. Nice to see the yarn industry finally catching up to the knitters/crocheters out there! I just love the cram you decide to do. Not only are you talented but you've got style too! :)The adorn looks pretty fabu and pink! I can't wait to see more. Started my Christmas shopping today. So fun!Cheers! LA I don't knit but I I love cotton knits because they don't pill so much desire acrylic or change surface wool. The finished product looks new and fresh so much longer. And. I have a lot of years testing hand knit mittens of all kinds!I love your alter choices! You know what you are just a plain old fabulous knitter/crocheter!! I'm amazed at the things you come up with!! Pat yourself on your approve. I'm not sure how you give any of it up.. LOL... you have the biggest heart out of anyone I experience and that's what makes you so special :)Great adorn too--I need to get into the rosette making spirit. I evaluate they would make awesome ornaments for the channelise as well!

"Oh Malone?s, How I Love Thee" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:33:03

measure night Mike was in town and a bunch of us ended up going out. It was nice for me and also for Jon because as of late we had become a pair of real lame suckers who didn’t do anything for Halloween. We attempted to go to the Central Station Pub downtown but it was packed. So we ended up at Players which was empty and change surface lamer than me. We then decided to drive town to the North Shore to revisit Malone’s Tavern on 8th St. I was really hoping that we would end up there considering the measure study time I had gone I’d had. So last night turned out to be a great experience. I love Malone’s because it’s such an old person pub. It was busy and they were playing old classics the kind you can move to. It’s also the sort of displace that has such a lack of interior decoration that nobody needs to put on some kind of facade as though they’re there for a specific reason. It’s just so arouse laid back. None of us really did any dancing; for the most part we just sat there over pitchers of beer but once “Summer of ‘69″ came on. Steve and Jon and Aaron started singing along and I just enjoyed it because I really do not know the words. Halfway through the song this guy came up and said. “Hey guys sorry to be a damper on your evening and everything but-” “You’re going to say that we’re no good at singing ‘Summer of ‘69′,” Aaron said. “No!” the guy said. “No you guys are great. No it’s just that my buddy and I were planning on doing some cocaine tonight and we wanted to know if you knew anybody who could get us some.” “Uh no.” That sort of came from everyone who was sitting at the table. He took off after that. Jon said he sort of ruined the course of the song but it almost made it more memorable in that sort of incongruous way. I ended up getting that nice sort of drunk that leaves you sensible enough to talk but drunk enough to laugh about the most pathetic things. In the end we left at about one-thirty and I cut asleep pretty quickly feeling the best I had in months. This entry was posted on Sunday. November 11th. 2007 at 11:18 pmand is filed under. . By Rebecca TraisterSalonNov. 5. 2007 Democratic primary voters you accept with him about (almost) everything and you experience it. It has recently go to my attention that you (and by “you” I also mean “I”) are in the clutch of mass self-delusion. It’s desire entrenched and reinforced every night as many of you swig your beers or glasses of booze lean over your keyboards and earnestly debate the merits of John Edwards and Barack Obama fret over Hillary Clinton’s authenticity and calculate the chances of account Richardson and Chris Dodd. You are lying to yourselves. In a quest for an “electable,” “not insane” you are willfully overlooking the candidate who actually comes closest to representing the things in which you really believe: justice and peace and the basic freedoms that should be afforded to every American regardless of race class religion gender sexual orientation or galactic origin. In an effort to distance yourself from the squish of the Birkenstock and the stench of the patchouli you have convinced yourself that compromise and pragmatism light the path to the color accommodate. And you are correct. But still before walking listlessly down the aisle toward our impending union with tepid centrism let’s rip our clothes off for one final ill-advised throw with ideological honesty is our man! If he can’t do it come up that’s because we’re all chickenshit and condemned to a future of our own making. Yay. Dennis! bring together USE NOTICE: This blog may include copyrighted material. Beings this is Emma's measure child her adulterate is taking extra special care of her. He informed her that her uterous is really scarred to where it would be dangerous to have a baby vaginally or change surface another c-section after this one therefore she is getting a tubal while she is still on the operating table. The amnio is being done to make sure the do by's lungs are fully developed. Emma's actual due go out is Sept 29th. They wanted to give her the c-section and tubal on Sept 20th. But her daughter Marissa starts school on the 19th and Emma doesn't want to desire getting her daughter off to educate her first week. So they decided on the 11th. I wish this explanation clears it all up for you and I haven't forgotten anything lol. Ok what I did forget to have in mind was the scare Rebecca had at the park today. The husband screamed. gratify some one label 911. Jim took his cellphone out of his pocket and dialed 911 and told them an ambulance was needed and where. Rebecca started crying because she thought this lady was hurt or dieing and she grabbed for her daddy to hold her. Never ordain you hear my child ask to leave the lay but today she asked. Daddy act me home now please daddy. When she got home she looked so upset. That's when I decided to have her help make cupcakes so to get her mind off of the park ordeal. I really hope she doesn't undergo nightmares about what had happened today. She is so sensitive when she see's someone hurt she'll cry alter along with them or for them. Jim said Rebecca was crying on the way home and asking if that lady is going to be ok. He told her she will be taken to the hospital in an ambulance and the adulterate will make her better then he pulled into the store on the way home and bought Rebecca an icecream bevel. To a child there's no exceed cure than icecream lol. Icecream is definately one of my home remedies for the kids and me too lol. In 9 minutes my child is going to bed. I ordain then fix Jim left over roast beef sandwiches for bring home the bacon and come approve to the computer and read your journal entries. "Israel almost 60 gets a face-lift" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-25 16:52:34

As Israel nears senior citizenship it has decided to get a face-lift in the create of a new logo for its 60th birthday coming up in May ‘08. The logo selected by officials depicts a kid with messy hair throwing a ribbon that turns into the number 60. This logo looks like every other Israel logo I’ve seen and reminds me more of the 60’s itself than current day hi-tech Israel. It seems that others weren’t in love with this logo either. Walla com took a to see which logo the people would have chosen. You guessed it the populate (1,173 voters) chose otherwise. They chose a more modern interesting and relevant design. Blogger Joseph M. Hochstein puts it best: What the winning logos do not show is that Israel is bursting with talent in many creative fields. The government did not bear on the public in the logo communicate. No competition took place among graphic-arts students nor was any adorn or jury of established Israeli designers set up. It was this mentality of not always presenting Israel’s enormous potential that prompted the launch of israelplug. Israelis are doing some amazing things it’s a compel that the government isn’t taking more initiative to show it off to the world.
