Yes it would give Hinata some extra character development. But I really can't see her changing without the help of Naruto. Despite what some people believe you can't change on your own. First your inspiration has to come from someone or from yourself. In Hinata's case she wanted to change. She trained harder than either of her teammates but she still failed in missions. There comes a time when you're so sick of trying and failing that you completely give up. That's when you're inspiration to change has to come from someone else. Hinata saw how everyone looked down on Naruto and thought little of him but also even after what everyone said he never gave up hope that it was possible for him to change. Hinata's inspiration came from Naruto and it's because of him that she became a Chunin. If you still disagree with me that Hinata can change without the help of Naruto consider the following:- If Hinata doesn't need Naruto to change who can she model herself after? Who will she get her inspiration from? Her father? Most likely not. He's never been supportive of her. He's never encouraged her. Tobi who begged to be allowed to connect Akatsuki despite skepticism among the other members about his competence has been shown to undergo at least one Sharingan eye which he hides beneath a mask. Tobi has stated to the audience in the presence of Pein and Konan that he has Madara Uchiha's cater. The latest show implies that Madara may somehow be comfort alive or that Tobi might be Madara Uchiha himself or an reincarnation of Madara. As a side note the Tobi=Obito theory has not been entirely discounted by this information. To add a little backstory. Obito Uchiha was a comrade of Kakashi's when they were on a three person squad with Rin and their relationship was one of rivalry (also a foil to the relationship between Sasuke and Naruto). Obito was born an Uchiha but suffered from feelings of inferiority beside Kakashi who was talented at everything whereas Obito was somewhat clumsy though loyal and stout-hearted. Obito was crushed by falling rocks on a mission and though his entire alter align was crushed he offered Kakashi his left Sharingan eye. The strongest evidence for Obito having survived as Tobi is accredited to Tobi's one Sharingan eye the right eye and that though the be of his approach is hidden by a disguise his hairline is similar to Obito's. More important is the impact Obito's survival--in whatever form--would have on Kakashi's relevance to the story and the connection between past and show. Kakashi has been a central engrave since the very beginning of the story but lately has lost a great deal--if not all--of his significance. This will involve some lengthy and almost completely hypothesized backstory as anything dealing with Madara and Shodai must at this point. It will cover much information that you already experience in an effort to properly support the theory. Drawing a correlation between Sasuke and Naruto with Madara and Shodai is rather simple and supported by multiple people particularly Kakashi. The story seems well known amongst the older Leaf Ninja and is probably somewhat of a fable in Konoha. The battle at the Valley of the End between Naruto and Sasuke was one of opposing ideals. Naruto believing strength comes from protecting those you love and Sasuke believing that true strength can only be attained by severing those bonds. This particular battle (arguably) left no decisive winner in the ideals category with each combatant still going their own way (I'd argue that Naruto's strength and ordain caused Sasuke to alter his path somewhat but that's a different story). This brings us to the Shodai/Madara contend at the same location. It's likely that they were friends and rivals much like Sasuke/Naruto. Obito/Kakashi. Orochimaru/Jiraiya. desire all those friend/compete pairs they likely had a differing opinion of what made a Shinobi strong. The only difference is that this contend would decide the future ideals of all of Konohagakure. Shodai believed in the Will of Fire. Madara (and this is where is gets into guesswork) believed in the Heart of Blades. Protecting Bonds vs. Destroying Bonds appear familiar?It's believed that Shodai won that battle.
