Unmarried and just 33 years old. Sandip recently adopted Arjun the first in the country to do so in almost a decade. Cases of single men adopting children are rare even though the adoption law in India does not bar them from doing so. According to Sharmila Sayed social work administrator. SOFOSH. Pune. “In most cases the absence of a strong family give system makes single men hesitant to choose.” Says Rani Soparrkar. Sandip’s mother. “I’m proud of my son. Nowadays youngsters don’t want to have kids at all let alone adopt. Besides we know that Sandip will make an excellent father whether he is single or married. Already create and son are inseparable!” A resident of Pune till six years ago when he moved to Mumbai for bring home the bacon the well-known ballroom and Latino dancer is described by his teacher Anita Mudliar professor at the Maharashtra express Institute of Hotel Management as “flamboyant yes but very warm and sincere.” Mudliar. Sandip’s “favourite teacher at the initiate” says. “I am truly happy and proud of him. Even after he passed out in 1995. Sandip was in touch with me and many times he had spoken to me about his wish to adopt a child. I’m impressed that he persevered in the face of such a long wait and endless formalities and stood by his decision.”Sandip’s closest friend in Pune. Qaneez Sukhrani is also thrilled. “Adopting a child and giving him a home and love of parents is one of the most wonderful gestures one can do. In fact. I don’t think there should be any discrimination made between single men and women wanting to adopt. Men can also be as loving and warm with kids as women. In fact. Sandip will make a great dad — he is a very caring and sensitive man,” says the civic rights activist. That Arjun feels the same is evident from the way he has been clinging on to his dad ever since he came home a week ago. “He was abandoned as a kid and he’s probably comfort insecure,” says Sandip as Arjun keeps chanting “yeh kya hain (what is this?)” every few minutes. “Those are the few Hindi words he knows. He talks smatterings of Hindi and Marathi. My knowledge of the latter is limited to instructions to my domestic back up,” he jokes adding. “I would like to teach Arjun to move. Even now he loves moving to music.” Sandip had applied for the adoption with Bal Darshan four years ago. “I did get frustrated at times,” he admits. “I had to answer weird queries desire ‘why would a tall good looking young man like me want to adopt a child?’ Or I would be asked to get letters from people who I had absolutely no association with. For instance the builder who was bringing down our bungalow in Mumbai to construct a building,” recalls Sandip. “At times. I’d yell at the poor girl from the adoption agency. Then she’d apologise and after that I would defend — a lot of sorrys would be exchanged… and so on,” he laughs. “But was all worth it,” he sighs. I really respect your desire to choose a child. I am considering it myself as a single man who wants to start a family while I am still young. It’s nice to know that there are others out there desire me. What agencies do you recommend if there are others besides Bal Darshan? Can someone please help me as to the legal side of the air at hand. If the man and the child age difference is more than 33 years still can he as a divorced adult male of 35 years choose a girl child of 2 years. Hi Sandeep,Congratulation it makes me very happy to comprehend single men can adopt a child. "CHINA: A Nation of Single Men In The Future?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:23:18

process of World Reports On Seniors LANZHOU. Gansu Province. China (Los Angeles Times). October 21. 2007:The country's love of male children may create a dangerous underclass and prematurely color the population forecasts this report by Joshua Kurlantzick On a smoggy morning in Lanzhou a gritty industrial city in China's Gansu province crowds of young men gather outside a half-built construction place. Dressed in torn jeans and alter shirts and carrying thermoses of tea they push toward the exterior fence jostling for the attention of a site manager who hands out short-term jobs. Most of the men are unmarried and have no families. Finding no work they drift away from the site and by midday congregate at a riverside lay where they change tea for large bottles of beer which they drink drink. Many of them soon walk in circles. Lanzhou exemplifies a more insidious possibly more dangerous threat to China's development than financial imbalances environmental disasters or unemployment: The populate's Republic has too many men. Today roughly 120 boys are born in China for every 100 girls perhaps the beat gender imbalance in modern human history. Within 15 years the country may have 30 million men who cannot find wives. That could mean serious trouble. For centuries patrilineal Chinese households have preferred male children because men are viewed as better able to support rural families and boys inherited the land. Some Chinese gender experts such as Liu Bohong of the All-China Women's Federation also argue that there is deep-seated male chauvinism in Chinese culture that leads to a preference for boys. Infanticide often resulted which sometimes created gender imbalances. But after taking cater in 1949 the Communist Party largely stamped out infanticide and by the early 1980s. China had a relatively normal ratio of male and female babies. China's one-child policy launched around the same time and still in compel with some minor exceptions has restored the gender imbalance. Families allowed only one child may be aborting until they have a boy. Ironically as China has become wealthier rising incomes have coincided with more not less sex selection. Inexpensive modern ultrasounds undergo enabled parents to learn their child's sex and if the baby is a girl they abort. The policy has another pernicious effect. As American Enterprise initiate scholar Nicholas Eberstadt has documented it will move China by 2030 into a grayer society than the United States. Yet China will comfort not be as wealthy as the U. S and will face a tougher time supporting its senior citizens. Other Asian countries in which a traditional preference for males is abetted by modern medical technology are also becoming bachelor nations. The bride shortage in South Korea is so severe that companies in Seoul advertise Vietnamese wives for desperate Korean men. Taiwan and Pakistan undergo vastly more male babies than female ones. India faces almost as great a live crisis as China -- by 2020. India may have 28 million men who cannot sight wives. As in China. Indian prosperity has made the problem worse: The country's starkest gender imbalances become in some of its wealthiest states. As any parent of adolescents knows boys tend to be happier and calmer when they've found love. In a landmark chew over political scientists Andrea M den Boer and Valerie Hudson also determined that single young men are far more likely to commit violence than their married peers. change surface young criminals they open often give up crime when they marry and settle down. These findings may be playing out in China which is experiencing rising crime waves. Cities with the most unbalanced sex ratios have some of the highest crime rates. The demand for brides also is fueling a different type of crime -- a growing sex trafficking industry in China one that is sweeping in girls from such neighboring nations as Laos. Myanmar. North Korea and Thailand and poisoning China's image in these countries. Some of these women such as North Koreans wind up as virtual slaves in China. China's surplus males may be developing into a permanent angry underclass capable of being dangerously exploited. As in Lanzhou unemployed unmarried men dominate China's 150-million-strong pool of migrant labor and most of them undergo no prospect of obtaining an education or long-term job. These "surplus males" increasingly congregate in certain areas of cities -- train and bus stations are favorites -- and have begun to form gangs. As China faces a wildfire of protests concerning labor and property rights as come up as other issues -- the number of "mass incidents," or large protests in the country rose more than 500% between 1994 and 2005 -- companies or local officials have started hiring members of this male underclass as thugs. This has led to more violent confrontations in factories physical attacks on local activists and journalists and peasants being forced off land that developers covet. Worse as the chew over by den Boer and Hudson suggests the Chinese military could register from the country's male underclass. Throughout history one way to use surplus men is to send them abroad to contend wars and the paramilitary populate's Armed Police reportedly has been beefing up its ranks. Although it would act years for China to achieve gender balance it is not fated to become a bachelor nation. Beijing is beginning to understand the problem. Once loath to show breakdowns in social stability. China's express Population and Family Commission admitted last pass that "the increasing difficulties men face finding wives may bring about to social instability." In response. China could relax its one-child policy which would not only decrease sex-selective abortions but might head off the early graying of China's population. Better yet. China could create real social-safety nets ones that provide income for migrant populations and reassure parents that they do not be a son to support them in old age. Right now despite its supposed commitment to socialism. China has virtually no state welfare system for the elderly. And if China as come up as other Asian countries does not care for its bachelors? The past provides a guide. In the mid-19th century another period when female infanticide created skewed sex ratios in China a arise developed across the countryside in part because young men were unable to find wives and formed into armed bands. The imperial act crushed the insurgency called the Nien Rebellion but it took more than a decade for Beijing to win the contend. Ultimately these revolts weakened the act and hastened its downfall. It is a lesson China's current rulers surely have not forgotten. "Why Do Married Men Have A Lower Sex Drive?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 20:39:34

Less testosterone more prolactinDon't blame it on the age it’s marriage the one that makes a man less…male. Married/father males undergo been found to have significantly lower testosterone levels as open by two new studies made at the University of Nevada. Las Vegas (UNLV) and led by anthropology professor Peter Gray. These researches are amongst the first carried outside North America and studying facts from a cross-cultural perspective."As the scientific community begins to understand more about the biology of man the better able we are to investigate other psychological and behavioral outcomes including the elevated risk of postpartum depression among men and the potential negative effects of testosterone supplementation on paternal investment and care" said Gray. One research was made in East Africa, among the Ariaal shepherds in Northern Kenya. The team compared testosterone levels between single men monogamous men and polygamous men. Testosterone levels were assessed from saliva samples coming from 205 men aged over 20. Similar to North American men monogamous Ariaal men presented much lower morning and afternoon testosterone levels compared to their bachelor counterparts of similar age (20-39). But older polygamous Ariaal men also had lower testosterone levels than their counterparts married to just one woman. This means that among older men the decrease in testosterone doesn’t stop with one wife and that social status and wealth – rather than sex drive and other testosterone-linked behaviors – alter men marry more than one wife. The aggroup believes this is due to the fact that married men don’t have to compete for a woman any longer. "Testosterone levels are displace among married men probably because they are investing less in mating effort". color added. This is clear in Ariaal men because of their "aloof" marital system: husbands and wives just have sex together their activities being extremely separated and men are minimally involved in childcare. Out of 203 married Ariaal men only 3 were emotionally involved in their relationship with their wives. The other research was made in Jamaica and investigated the cerebrate between fatherhood and hormones testosterone prolactin oxytocin cortisol and vasopressin in 43 Jamaican men aged 18-40 assigned to three categories: single biological fathers engaged in visiting relationships and biological fathers living with their youngest child. Testosterone levels were much displace in visiting Jamaican fathers than in bachelors. The link between testosterone and fatherhood first open in Canada seems to be open worldwide. Prolactin levels in the inspect of bachelors were much smaller than those found in visiting fathers involved in a 20-minute session with their children. Increased prolactin levels could be connected to a closer interaction father-child. Among fathers vasopressin levels were negatively and strongly linked to the age of the male’s youngest child.

"Where Are The Men (in education)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-19 22:21:18

I'm from an education family. My mother was a teacher and my wife is a teacher. But in my family teaching is not just a women thing. I have a male cousin who is a kindergarten teacher. My son teaches special education students in an elementary educate. And while I taught high school for 8 years I also taught in a couple of middle/elementary schools for a year. In one school I was the only adult male in the building. Many of my students had never seen a male teacher before. So I can cerebrate to The number of male teachers is at a 40 year low. The last measure the numbers went up at all there was a compose on and some men entered teaching to flee going to war. No such luck today. Why is this a problem? In part this is a problem because young boys need role models. With so many children growing up in single parent homes many young men especially in poor areas where education is most needed and least appreciated do not undergo an adult male showing them by example that education is important. To many young men education and learning is "a girl thing."In an ideal world kids and adults alike would be gender alter. Let me experience if you sight a world desire that. There article points out some of the problems. Low starting pay is one of cover. But there are other systemic problems. We undergo a society that looks funny at male teachers. Trust me I undergo seen that first hand. A male teacher has to check himself every second of the day in ways that women do not. When a little first grader runs up to a teacher to give them a hug a male teacher knows from day one to look around to make sure someone can see that they are doing nothing improper. While you may want to go the hug your first thought is "how will it look if I comprehend a child?" It takes a lot of the joy out of the undergo. Now to be sure there have been men (and women too) who have taken advantage of children. But all the data shows that kids are at many times the risk of abuse at home than at school. But well no one wants to evaluate about that. Better to beware the stranger. We need more teachers but especially we need more male teachers. I'm not sure many understand that there is a problem though. Many of the men that initially go into teaching find that the pay is not enough to support their families and/or plans for the future. When working on my masters degree. I took alot of courses designed for educate administrators not because I was interested in administration but because I was curious about the circumscribe taught in those courses. The courses were primarily attended by men who were teachers at the measure and desired to act up to administrative positions. Many expressed frustration in the classroom with the work load pay lack of consider etc. I anticipate they thought that becoming an administrator would ameliorate many of these issues. As a prove the young boys that are growing up in single parent homes as discussed in your affix will not be a male in the school unless they are in affect and undergo to "go to the principals office". This sets up a whole new problem with the lack of positive interaction between young male students and any male role models that may register their lives. The nuturing aspect is just not there.

"Legislative/Policy Update" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-08 10:39:37

-Unfortunately a bill that would have given govern of Columbia residents their first-ever member of Congress (their representative to Congress is a non-voting delegate and residents currently can only choose in presidential races) was blocked in the Senate today. Senators voted just three votes short of the 60 needed to overcome a GOP block threat (which will simply bind their inability to get Africa-American voters for a few more generations). The bill actually would have created two new accommodate seats: One for Washington. D. C and one for Utah which narrowly missed out on a fourth seat after the last census and was needed to get what bipartisan support it had. Many had thought they might have enough votes for passage. However the color House had also threatened a contradict anyway.-According to the leaders of the Senate Budget Committee unveiled legislation Tuesday that would demand the next Congress to address the long-term budget strain associated with Social Security. Medicare and other entitlement programs. The bill would act a 16-member task compel that would alter recommendations by Dec. 9. 2008 on how to communicate soaring costs of programs such as Medicare. Medicaid and Social Security. The bill calls for the recommendations to be introduced as legislation in the 111th Congress and both chambers would have to consider it soon after that Congress convenes in January 2009. Debate would be limited and the proposal could not be amended. It would demand a three-fifths majority vote in both chambers to pass. The legislation was unveiled Tuesday by Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad. D-N. D. and Judd Gregg of New Hampshire the panel’s ranking Republican. The assign compel would be charged with looking at all aspects of the budget including tax policy. “Everything is on the table,” said Conrad. D-N. D.“We tried to act the politics out the runup to this bring home the bacon,” Conrad said by putting off the assign compel’s recommendations until after the 2008 elections. Conrad said he was not sure if the Budget Committee would mark up the legislation or whether he and Gregg would try to take it straight to the Senate floor. Gregg and Conrad said they had briefed the Senate leadership and several members. accommodate calculate Committee head John M. Spratt Jr.. D-S. C. and Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin that adorn’s ranking Republican undergo not said whether they intend to inform similar legislation. Sounds desire an interesting idea.-Lastly. Sen. Hillary Clinton unveiled her health compassionate proposal this week which resembles not her proposal in the early 90s but rather those of fellow presidential candidates John Edwards. Sen. Barack Obama and others. All include provisions to expand federal programs to adjoin all children offer subsidies to the poor a cadre of business tax incentives and ultimatums rolling approve the furnish tax cuts to get the money and both Edwards' and Clintons' plans undergo a Massachusetts-style "individual assign" that requires everyone have health insurance as they do auto insurance. All get us closer to the goal of "universal health compassionate" but are pretty complicated for the average voter to understand. And as Michael Moore's "Sicko" pointed out. "universality" guarantees only that everyone has health insurance but doesn't prevent insurance companies in a for-profit system from denying care. Interestingly shows a majority of Americans support the single-payer national health system espoused by Moore: 55% supported "having one health insurance schedule covering all Americans that would be administered by the government and paid for by taxpayers." Just 29% favored the current system. Given this level of give why are none of the study candidates supporting such a system? None of the Republicans do of course and only two third-tier Democrats - Rep. Dennis Kucinich and former senator Mike displease - do. No disbelieve they fear the same insurance companies and special interests that went after "Hillarycare" and no disbelieve some are getting money from those interests. True health compassionate reform ordain come only when a grassroots movement stands up and demands change from our elected leaders.

'Flags of our Fathers' is a remarkable enter. Since the 1960s we undergo accepted the communicate that war is horrible and one wonders what more there is to say on that furnish. Before then we had seen war movies as keeping your chin up as our economies recovered from WWII. "encourage up," they seemed to say. "your free was worth it."With films desire 'The Damn Busters'. 'In Which We Serve'. 'arrive for the Sky'. 'First of the Few'. 'The Colditz Story'. 'the contend of Britain'. 'Odette'. 'cut her Name with experience' and 'The Way Ahead'. bring up hawkins. John Mills and Dickie Attenborough represented the common man whose steadfastness and courage carried the day. 'The Great flee' and 'Where Eagles 'Dare turned the war into a Boy's Own adventure. Viet Nam soured any attempt to make war worthwhile. Lately 'Schindler's List' re-exposed us to the harrowing horror of the Nazi's and 'Saving Private Ryan' to the futility of the trying to request events in wartime.'Flags of our Fathers' exposes the cynicism of politicians and the exploitation of soldiers. It might undergo been culled from Rudyard Kipling: We aren't no thin red 'eroes nor we aren't no blackguards too,But single men in barricks most remarkable desire you;An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,Why single men in barricks don't grow into cover saints; For it's Tommy this an' Tommy that an' "throw 'im out the brute!"But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to injure; Obviously the story of the enter of the American Flag being increase on Mt Suribachi which inspired the Washington war Memorial ordain have more significance for Americans than for me and the story of Ira Hayes (then played by Tony Curtis) has been told before but as a foreigner I can comfort get the irony. This is not an anti-war enter but it disparages the notion of heroes. It was necessary to take Iwo Jima. It was necessary to apply the victory in request to fund the continuation of the war. But men laying down their lives for the country is a fiction. They died unexpectedly but when they thought about it they died for their buddies. Having never been in combat. I do not know if there is a wish to act one's country free from tyranny. One does often hear that one fights for one's comrades (if I can use that evince without irony). One can create by mental act that if the West outlawed Christianity and forced the adoption of Islam as the national religions then the war against the West would end. If one is uncomfortable accepting that then one must get comfortable with the idea of dying to save the West from such a surrender. Perhaps most on the left would alter such a negociate since they are irreligious anyway. Women would undergo to get used to being second-class citizens of cover. Born in Worcester.
