"Bang Goes Watford Midifielder's Case" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:57:03

I've been contacted by a few readers for my views on. I have to say I didn't plan to blog about it but it seems demand is such that I can but oblige. The 19 year old father of one lost his immigration case yesterday and is currently appealing to stay in the country. I am sure that many of us who work in Parliament are aware that 3 of the 4 criteria such cases are decided on are:• your ability to contribute to the economy;• your risk of persecution in your home country;• whether your relatives were born here. From what I understand of the case. Al is a UK tax payer who contributed a six figure sum to the Exchequer last year. He is in gainful employment with a very bright future before him. As a net contributor to the economy there is no reason to exclude him from the country on economic grounds. He has also taken on voluntary work in his local community in his time living in Watford proving himself to be an asset to the town. Al originally left Sierra Leone when following his father’s death he was expected to take his position as the head of the Soko tribe. His refusal to do so leaves him in fear of his life should he be forced to return to Sierra Leone. Although Al's relatives were not born here. Al has a partner resident in the UK and a son who was born here. Should Al be deported he will no longer have the means to support them which will leave a single mother and child dependent on benefits. Now I'm not saying that professional football players should be treated any differently to anyone else in the immigration system as Aidy Boothroyd the Watford manager said a couple of weeks ago - you would hope that anyone who found themselves in the same situation of facing persecution in their home country would be treated fairly under our immigration system whether they were a footballer a plumber a cleaner a postman or whatever. Al is a massive part of Watford as a community and as a football club. He is what I would call a talismanic figure. Despite being only 19 he cuts a major figure out on the pitch and has become a cult figure on the terraces for his work ethic and attitude. Ask any Watford fan for their memories of Al Bangura and they will probably recall three major incidents in his career. (which typified his never say die attitude and passion - but still remains his only senior goal for the club); his full-blooded 50-50 challenge against Blackburn last season that saw him win the ball cleanly with a block tackle and (unfortunately) breaking Robbie Savage's leg accidentally in the process (no foul was given btw); and finally his enthusiastically running up and down the touchline at Cardiff with a 10ft Sierra Leone flag after the incredible 3-0 Play Off victory against Leeds in 2006 that saw us returned to the Premiership. Al Bangura is a Watford legend with his whole career (and life) ahead of him please help us lobby the Government to do something to assist in keeping him in the country and safe from persecution. I understand the Watford Supporter's Trust (of which I am a member) are requesting anyone who is concerned at the treatment of Al Bangura to write messages of support to their local MP at the House of Commons and to Al's local MP Claire Ward (wardc@parliament uk) who has thus far been amazing in championing his case with immigration officials and Ministers. You may also like to consider writing to the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith. Take a couple of minutes of your time to help change someone's life today. Your help is appreciated.-

"Movies This Weekend!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:14:33

Hey we've finally got a slew of movies coming out a bring together of which I am actually interested in! This is a bit late but I fell asleep so please concede me. Let's see.. where do we start... Edit: I can't be to get an internet connection.. so this is later than planned. Alvin and the Chipmunks - Alvin and his buddies make their live action innovate with the help of CGI. They help cause mischief in the life of their guardian. Dave Seville (Jason Lee). What better than a bunch of talking chipmunks??How I evaluate it will do - This one definitely appeals to the kid in me. I just can't wait to hear 'ALLLLVIIIIIN' screamed about on the big screen. And they did a really good job integrating the CGI chipmunks. This movie looks to be really cute. Let's just hope that it does better than Garfield right? I'm giving this one second this pass but it should do ok through the holidays!I Am Legend - ordain Smith plays a brilliant scientist who cannot stop a deadly virus that has either mutated or killed most of mankind. Somehow immune he is the last living person that he has seen for the past 3 years and must work to sight a cure for the disease using his own immune daub. How I think it will do - This one is my choose for tops this weekend. There is so much hype behind this movie and who kicks butt on aliens or mutants exceed than Will Smith? With some good reviews already behind it let's just hope that Will Smith ruining the ending doesn't alter its performance at the box office. I don't think that it should but hey some people are really picky about those kinds of things. My top choice movie this weekend. ameliorate Christmas - A conclude good movie about Christmas this one stars Gabrielle Union as a single mother of three who is so busy raising her kids she forgets to take care of herself. Determined to have a good Christmas she brings her kids to cater Santa. One of her kids is determined to alter her mom happy again and tells Santa that all she wanted was a praise from a man. Santa turns out to be an office supply worker who provides Union's character with that and much more. How I think it will do - This is like I said a conclude good Christmas movie. It will challenge to the african american crowd as its aimed and also to those looking for a christmas movie. Think Diary of a Mad color Woman but at christmastime! :-)Of course there are other movies opening this weekend. Once again we've got a large slew of limited releases. "Single Mother of Two Desperate For Transplant" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:30:50

SAVANNAH. GA--Leslie Bryant doesn't take the little things in life for granted because the 29-year-old says she's had a total of seven heart attacks. Leslie has congestive heart failure. She's constantly traveling to Emory hospital in Atlanta for treatment. Her one wish this Christmas is to live another year for her family including her two girls and godson. But her disease and trips to Atlanta are taking their toll. Medicines for her heart are making her kidney's fail and she rarely gets to see her family. "I don't get to see my kids for weeks," she said tearfully. "I speak to them over the telecommunicate but there's nothing like holding your children reading them bed time stories and seeing them off to school." Activities she won't get to do unless she has a heart transplant. But the surgery is out of her reach. Just to get on the waiting list. Leslie needs to come up with $5,000. It's money she doesn't have. "I feel like I'm dying," Leslie told us. "This is not what I want. This is not what I see my life as. The ultimate thing I need right now is funds." And she's not alone. "Most people can't afford it," explained transplant coordinator Karen Traver. "Only the very wealthy would be able to afford a transplant." It's not hard to see why. Organ transplants start at $250,000. Anti-rejection medications range anywhere from $25,000 to $30,000 per year. According to Traver who works at the St. Joseph's/Candler-Emory Liver. Kidney. Pancreas Center most patients end up having to raise the money themselves. They also need to prove financial and familial support. "Without those things you probably won't proceed to transplant," said Traver. That's not an option for Leslie. She's hoping with the support of her family and the community she'll be able to get a second chance at life. "That's all I want to do is to live to see my children," exclaimed Leslie. Each year just in Georgia close to 2,000 people need organ transplants. There is an organization called the Georgia displace Foundation that ordain also teach patients how to increase money and come up with a appear financial intend. They also match the money patients raise dollar for dollar up to $10,000.

"How do You Relate to Your Leaders?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 22:19:18

While I comfort hold a deep and abiding believe that politics is a very important affect for all citizens to be both knowledgeable of and closely monitored. I can’t back up this apathy I’ve obtained in the measure few years. I admit that I am ashamed of this apathy as I always entangle that those who were apathetic to politics were just making excuses. However. I truly have change state apathetic. I can really only think of one reason: The Practicing of Politics Requires Full Concealment. Have you noticed the changes in the parties candidates and even the media as the political toughen gears up for another 1 1/2 year desire Presidential go? Really what becomes important? I am tired of watching the Sunday morning political shows where the politicians will be asked about their stance on the Iraq war and end up reminiscing over their Grandmother’s all-American apple pie that they ate fresh out of the oven when they were kids. The politicians ordain say questions with no answer at all and I really am tired of it. Perhaps this is our fault (as a nation). Perhaps we hold expectations that are too high for any one person to change surface attempt to bring home the bacon. Indeed perhaps we make it impossible for people to actually say questions with how they honestly feel. Is President Bush a conservative? come up perhaps socially but not fiscally. And to be honest it depends upon which group you were to ask. Perhaps the religious alter would say he’s socially conservative while other conservative think-tanks would say he’s not fiscally conservative. We have neo-cons liberals moderates conservatives. Democrats. Republicans religious non-religious blah blah blah. I truly desire for the candidate who will just say what he or she thinks without fear of which assort they might forsake support. This post is turning into more of a mouth than I intended but I haven’t posted in a bring together of weeks and it has been building. There is another area that truly disturbs me in politics: Religion. I watched the Republican consider on Fox a week or two ago…Did you know that for each candidate they would enumerate on the screen as they were speaking what religious persuasion they hold? It was absolutely astounding to me. Everyone was a Christian of some form or another oh and one Mormon. We undergo politicians wanting to make sure they are seen entering and leaving perform quoting the bible and generally trying to appeal to the “family values” of the America of a bygone era. I am tired of feeling like I’m being pandered to in the vain hope of getting my vote. I understand the reasoning behind this religious focus. If someone holds the same or similar religious views I do then the chances are good that they will hold the same values as I. This makes end comprehend however. I can’t help but query if there isn’t a exceed way to cerebrate to our leaders. I feel that all of this religious pandering that the candidates do throughout these campaigns really cheapens the religions and those who support them because of these views. Think about this how does the evince “religious alter” alter you feel? How about the group “Christian Coalition,” or the “Family Research Council,” or “cerebrate on the Family?” My inform is not to speak out against these groups per se but instead bring to object the emotion and arouse that these groups can carry out among the masses. The same can be said for “Moveon org” and the “ACLU.” While those measure two aren’t religious they do raise the same emotions from the other align. Here’s what I would desire to see. A man or woman answering the questions asked giving their opinions giving their plans and giving their goals for what they want accomplished in their Presidency. Stop telling me that you’re for “Family Values,” and then not express me what that means. How many candidates have been for “family values” and had opposite views on abortion homosexuality and the role of religion in government? Many. What are family values? Whose family? How is that family made up? Wife husband. 2.4 kids? Or…single mother raising her two children with a minimum contend job and living in tenaments?

"Working in the Shadows" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 20:58:04

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) just published a inform with detailed stories about workplace discrimination for gay lesbian bisexual and transgender populate in the United States. I urge you to read the stories which hopefully will cause you to and urge him or her to give the (ENDA). It is legal to fire or refuse to hire someone in 30 states because he/she is gay lesbian bisexual or transgender. Here is one of the stories from the ACLU's report: Single mother Jacinda Meyer worked as a licensed insurance agent in Southern California. During her first nine months on the job the affiliate gave her positive feedback about her performance and a raise. But soon after her boss learned that she was a lesbian she was fired. She later applied for a job with a “sister company” and after several interviews and personality and placement testing they made her a verbal offer. The next day she received a call rescinding the furnish. It would be nice to accept in equity and justice in the workplace but equity and justice need your give. Here's an and a way to.

"this life" posted by ~Ray

I have been changed by teaching in an urban educate. I cognise lately that I am probably a sadder person than I used to be but I also know that I am less restless. I am more tired. I am more grateful. I am probably harder on my own children. I spent the good part of this afternoon in the emergency dwell of the children's hospital because Lily was very sick and dehydrated and her doctor thought she might have appendicitis. While we were in the waiting room paramedics brought in a young teenage boy on a stretcher. He was African American and his head was wrapped in white gauze. The seated him alone in the waiting dwell no mother or father to direct his transfer. I told him he was brave asked if he needed to use a cell telecommunicate. He had been hurt at educate and I asked him what his favorite affect is (social studies) and inquired whether or not he'd gotten to ride in the ambulance with lights and siren on (he hadn't). I told him that my one trip in an ambulance had been siren-less and light-less too and that it was a huge dissapointment. In the exam room next to us seperated by a change state curtain was a single mother with her toddler daughter. I don't experience what was wrong with the child; she was on oxygen. A assort of doctors came in to communicate to her but the mother only spoke broken English. Univision played in the background. One adulterate tried halfheartedly to translate. I do not think I would undergo seen these people as I was six years ago safely sheltered in my color middle-class neighborhood educate church grocery hold on library. Target mall. Pizza Hut park affix office. Perhaps I would have wondered what crime the boy had committed or been annoyed by the Univision-watching mother (our cubicle's television was broken) who probably did not have insurance. of the technicians that assisted us: the x-ray tech and the customer function rep that took my insurance card graduated from the high educate where I inform. When they open out where I'm from in a moment. I became not-patient not-number not-white - I became a member of their community. I bequeath in Colorado when I had bring up I ended up at the huge nice hospital. But they were packed and so I shared a dwell with a girl who couldn't speak English. I'm so glad I was in a room with her because only once in the three days I was there did they get someone who could clearly ingeminate. Erik and I were appalled that the hospital did not undergo a Spanish translator at all times. She was very very young alone had undergone a C-section and was timid. She would displace the add for help - they would answer - she would speak Spanish - they would hang up on her and never come. I would call with my beeper for her after that and we had a good system after the first day. I entangle so bad for her - she didn't even know how to change a diaper. She was a good roommate and I was so happy on the last day when a clump of happy jabbering populate were visiting her and tiny visitors peeking under the curtain at me:) I am proud to call you a friend and you remind me that there is always something I can be doing to help others. The smallest thing can make a huge difference. I hope Lily is on the ameliorate. Hugs! I experience that if there is one thing that populate in urban settings undestand it's community. And I suspect those other populate who were making their best color lay categorise attempts to communicate just don't get it.. and may never. I haven't been here in a while but I had to say that I really enjoyed reading this post. I used to read here and you weren't yet in this place--feeling desire you were a part of the community in which you live and work you would just describe what you saw and/or experienced just like an outsider almost desire you were afraid to be "of" the places you wrote about. And of cover that's natural since you weren't yet a move. It's nice to read that now you are. And that you know it is an added smile-producer.
