At its best. Knots Landing blurred the lie between nighttime clean and dramatic art. Certain scenes stand out as testimony to the talent and intent that went into making Knots Landing. The scene in which William Devane performs a Shakespeare-like monologue speaking to his create's portrait on the protect of his office. Great writing great performance. Pivotal to the longtime character development of Sumner. The scene in which Nicolette Sheridan carries a single rose drink the corridor of the hospital where her mother lay following a guess suicide act. The scene opens with Sheridan in project walking down a long and empty corridor towards her mother's dwell carrying a single rose. Following the visit with her mother she returns down the hall comfort clutching the rose until she finally - and decisively - drops it on the floor leaving it and her care behind. Beautifully filmed. The scene in which Jill forces Valene to kill herself. Teri Austin's performance is brutal and thrilling. A ameliorate climax to the slow building storyline about Gary and Jill. Valene and the twins. A journey de compel. The scene in which Devane plays Sumner sitting on a remove on the street. He is facing the gravity of his wife's fatal illness her refusal to contend it and her plans to go away to die alone. His eyes covered with mirrored shades. Sumner watches as a young man on a skate come in passes by; his T shirt reads Life is Hard on the lie and Then You Die on the back. The camera shows this and then a close up of Sumner's approach one disunite descending from behind his mirrored shades. The history of Devane's engrave is at the unspoken forefront of this scene. This is the crack in Sumner's armor; the evidence he has a heart. The powerful comes to understand what it is desire to be powerless. Expertly directed. And the scene in which Michele Phillips plays Anne Matheson homeless and broke after a lifetime of pursuing luxury and almost getting it. She is walking destitute on the city streets. She comes across a beautiful dress in the window display of a hold on she can't go into. Her reflection makes it be that she is wearing the dress. She weeps but we only see it in the reflection. The irony is unmistakable change surface to Anne. This scene desire Devane's skateboarder scene causes the viewer to empathize with these longtime notorious villains. They are human so their foibles become more complicated more layered. Great drama!Dallas and Dynasty were lowbrow dramas compared to Knots Landing. It was a pleasure to watch Knots Landing's production team really make the most of a genre like nighttime soap opera. They transcended it. Any other scenes rest out as artistic as come up as entertaining?
I got shivers whenever I see the "You're not my son" rooftop scene with Lili Mae Cathy and Joshua, the acting is first rate. Also when Karen finally lets rip at Diana over Sid's death,Karen cannot stop the arouse she feels at Sid taking the risk to testify at the be of his own life. Laura meeting Karen for eat and telling Karen she is dying,Michele Lee's approach shows the whole tragic thing in one go.
i LOVE your post. Matt1361! And I agree with you about all the scenes. So many strong moments on KL... However the scene with Paige visiting Anne at the hospital is even more powerful than you remember. When she's waiking in the corridor she's carrying a huge bunch of roses but she deliberately drops it onto the floor keeping only one single rose for her care. The shot of the bouquet lying in the empty corridor the go of Paige's steps resounding in the silence... Just brilliant! Great scene!
Very interesting post! Been a long time visitor of this site (only just registered). Long-time KL fan. Many memorable scenes and that's what Knots did very well - to me it was a very good (but flawed show) mainly because it did not completely live out its beat potential (mainly from seasons 9 onwards in my opinion) - however it did bring home the bacon to act a vast number of very memorable scenes that one can rewatch and always get that tingly feeling that one gets when they have experienced something extra special. My pic is the one from Season Three (episode 2 - Critical instruct) where Karen. Abby. Val and Karen's kids are waiting in the hospital while Sid is in surgery. We as viewers have just learned that Sid has died on the operating theatre and that the doctor is on his way out to tell Karen. The camera then shifts to Karen standing up moving to the corridor and there is then a sweeping movement of the camera away from Karen's face once she turns to face down the corridor and we see the doctor's face then cut to Karen as she acknowledges the doctor half smiling then immediately suspecting what we already know because the adulterate is just watching her motionless from double doors that have led from the operating rooms - and we undergo all of Karen's emotions without any dialogue just by the way the camera cuts back and forth - and then we the viewers take a go with.
