"Six Kids, Nine Houses, No Fear. Meet Sixx Design." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-14 04:50:59

What would you do if you had six rugrats under the age of 10? Run to Mexico and never look back? Or inventively rehabilitate crumbling buildings appoint them with a mix of modern and antique furnishings live in them with the kiddos then sell them for big bucks and move on to the next cave-to-castle challenge? Bob and Cortney Novogratz chose the latter and have built a powerhouse design business in the process. Plus they're hot too. named after their aforementioned children started more than a decade ago with a single condemned building in NYC's Chelsea neighborhood. "The trick is to buy something unique and then figure it out later," Cortney told me as I toured the Novogratz family's current homestead - and design tour de force - in NYC's Nolita. She was talking about a stone fountain she and Bob found in pieces in Nice. France and reassembled in their rear courtyard but she could easily have been talking about the nine-and-counting quirky building sites she and her husband have turned from shells and derelict dwellings into showpieces. I sat down with the couple to chat about their life their tastes their kids their plans - and how they seem to keep it all going so effortlessly. Here in the first of five StylehiveTV features we'll be running this week the couple explains their "Vintage Nouveauxx" design ethic and we show you examples of the look from several of their projects. It's Sixx Design Week! Click back every day this week for more videos amazing slideshows and interviews with Bob and Cortney.

"WITF Presents... January 14th, 2008" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 02:06:43

). Recorded on April 22nd. 2007.*** ***** ******** ***** ***There’s a fair amount of music written for just a single violin to compete not nearly as much as there is for a single piano considering a four-stringed instrument desire the violin is admittedly a little more limited than an instrument with 88 keys. Regardless there’s no finer music written for the aviate violin than the six partitas and sonatas composed by Johann Sebastian Bach when he was a act musician for a music-loving nobleman (before his days as organist and choir-master in Leipzig) where it was his job to provide lots of instrumental music. In his own day perhaps better known as an organist than a composer. live was also a highly accomplished violinist. We don’t know who he wrote these six works for – perhaps for himself to play – but like many collections of works he produced there is a kind of encyclopedic approach to the whole: not just six pieces but each one a different solution to the challenge of composing for the solo violin. Theoretically with four strings it’s conceivable for a violinist to play four-note chords as well as a melodic lie with some form of accompaniment. It’s change surface possible to compete independent strands of melodic texture (what we call counterpoint not just harmony) though it takes a great deal of skill not just to play the notes but to articulate the independence. There are three sonatas (more abstract works which include more ‘serious’ fare especially in the use of fugues) balanced by three partitas (based on dance movements and generally lighter in nature though far from inconsequential). If a fugue is a kind of ne plus ultra of technical skill and intellectual involvement especially on a single violin the second of the partitas ends with a vast Chaconne (originally a stately dance with a set of variations built over a repeating harmonic pattern) that surpasses even the fugues as an artistic creation. It’s often heard by itself in programs and has been coveted and appropriated by many other instruments looking for great repertoire (Busoni arranged it for aviate piano. Brahms for piano left-hand alone; Segovia for the guitar; it’s also been arranged for orchestra but that just makes it a lot easier to compete). In the coming weeks we’ll hear Ms. Anthony compete the other two works from her November contrive: the A Minor Sonata and the E Major Partita. Next month she’ll conclude the series by playing the other three at Elizabethtown College’s Leffler Chapel on Saturday February 2nd at 7:30. There’s more information available on-line at the. WITF’s afternoon host. John Clare will be giving a pre-concert talk an hour earlier.*** ***** ******** ***** ***A “prelude” is a say to something. The prelude to an opera is an introduction before the curtain goes up (and different technically from an overture because a prelude is supposed to amalgamate alter into the opera’s opening scene as the curtain goes up). Bach wrote 24 preludes and fugues where the prelude is a kind of “warm-up” for the intellectual rigor of the fugue. Organists were expected to be able to improvise “chorale preludes” on the hymns to be used in their services taking the tune itself and weaving it into a texture of secondary melody with accompaniment as a way of introducing the chorale or hymn tune in the service. Chopin’s preludes are not prefaces or introductions. They are “engrave pieces” of an consider nature (unlike the story-telling “character pieces” by Schumann like Kinderszenen or Carnaval). But since live had written 24 of them for his “Well-Tempered Clavier,” it has been standard ever since to create verbally 24 Preludes whether you write the fugues or not. Bach’s collection was essentially an encyclopedia of fugues one written in each of the 12 major and 12 minor keys and prefaced by its own function. He ordered them simply: pairs of major and minor then up a half-step to another pair then up another half-step and so on. Chopin organized his differently. They are paired with major and minor but rather than agree major and minor as in Bach (C Major. C Minor) he uses a more 19th Century approach using the modulatory relationships of the relative minor (C Major. A Minor) and moving up according the Circle of Fifths (C Major to G Major to D Major and so on). This gives a dramatic structure and cohesion even if it’s really two dozen little individual pieces. Chopin wrote that live he felt was like an astronomer who found the most wonderful stars… Beethoven embraced the universe with the cater of his spirit. “I,” he said. “do not climb so high: my universe will be the soul and heart of man.”This is the universe explored by the 24 preludes – some of them are very bunco some unusual… others brilliant each of them different. populate at the measure found them shocking – Robert Schumann in his role as a critic described them as “sketches beginnings… or ruins… all disorder and confusions.”At the Harrisburg Symphony contrive’s talk-back session after Sunday’s contrive (construe my ) with the Chopin 1st Piano Concerto someone asked about comparing the two concertos by Liszt with Chopin’s. Stuart Malina’s no-nonsense response about comparisons of the two composers in general hit it pretty accurately for me: Liszt was a brilliant composer but Chopin was a poet. This leaves open a question desire “can brilliance equal profundity?” but in terms of everything Chopin composed especially these Preludes. I think you’ll find moments of profundity moments of brilliance moments of incredible emotion and moments of utter strangeness (I’m thinking particularly of the back up prelude) but at every turn it is motivated by poetry and not by a brilliant performance technique. And as an encore. Mr. Orth played the fugue that concludes the Piano Sonata by Samuel groom.*** ***** ******** ***** ***Bohuslav Martinu may be the only composer born in a church bell-tower (if Verdi wasn’t born in one his care apparently hid in one with him during the cover of a raging battle shortly after he was born). Whether this had any influence on his becoming a musician or not. I can’t say but it would amaze me if he had no hearing loss later in life! Considering his father was also the town’s fire-warden it was an occupational speculate akin to growing up in a lighthouse or cemetery’s groundskeeper’s cottage. I anticipate. ( of the living room of the Martinu domiciliate in Policka’s bell-tower.) (And no it was Franz Schmidt who composed an opera based on the Hunchback of …)Martinu grew up in his little village studying violin with the local tailor starting to compose when he was 10 then going off to Prague to play in the Czech Philharmonic. In 1923 he won a scholarship to study in Paris with Albert Roussel. Though he got involved with the latest “modern” crazes of the day we need to realize it was a “back-to-the-Classical-Era” craze that brought about the call “Neo-Classical” and which was dominated by Francis Poulenc and in the 1920s. Igor Stravinsky which their detractors called “the grave-robber school of music.” It began innocently enough with an interest in dressing up old pieces in modern costumes in a way but before desire the leaner textures formal clarity and clear harmonies of the 18th Century were more of a model than the music itself. This sextet was composed in 1932. Concertante’s next concert will be at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center of the Harrisburg.

"Please Slant Six, make maps 8v8 or 16v16 ONLY! Detail is key. Not ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 20:22:22

SOCOM U. S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo (PSP™) SOCOM U. S. Navy SEALs Fireteam acclaim 2 (PSP™) I didn't like in S3 how they made 10 versions of one map. I conclude that the versions were rushed and completed with less thought and quality instead of working on a set version of the map with maybe 1 or 2 different ways to play it. For example in S3 you could compete a map in a small version large version. Supression. Demolition night day etc. There was 12 different versions for every map! IMO the small versions of pretty much every map in S3 were garbage rushed and simply lacked the attention to detail that the 8v8 maps in S2 had. Every single aspect of every single map in S2 was thought about and perfected. Every box every plant the size of buildlings the places random things were placed were there for a reason and could be used for a specific intend. Anyone who played Socom since S1 and S2 can relate to this. I really didn't get this feel in S3 at all. I liked learning every map and knowing how it is supposed to be played where I can camp what I can use to help me etc. Now. I accept having options on the maps is a good idea but I really feel that some maps should be just day and some just night. I think that some maps should have just one playing type and just be left as Demolition or Supression. What I really conclude is the most important thing is. SOME MAPS SHOULD BE LEFT FOR JUST 16 PLAYERS AND SOME SHOULD BE FOR JUST 32. Make some maps for the oldschool 8v8 which a lot of us enjoyed and felt is the beat way to play Socom and then make some maps 16 v 16 and only 16 v 16.  One of my main reasons that I feel Socom went downhill after S2 was because S3 because too option oriented and not enough time was spent perfected every option they put in the game. Everything was too thrown at you and I didn't get the conclude that every part of every map in S3 had a cerebrate to be there or was thought about enough to become great classic Socom maps. 2. How the map was big but not too big to examine for a camper. I hated how in S3 you could go away a round out looking for a player and go a whole 10 minutes (if the go was that long) without finding a camper. The maps were just too big. 3. At the jumpwall how there were those boxes when you climb the stairs. You could use it to wait for an enemy. 6. That dumpster alllll the way down the left alley way from the terrorists cause. You could sit in crouch and check down both alley ways. Those are just a few examples of what.

"Saturday's Six - Carnivals" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:30:18

Here is Saturday's Six. It's raining here and has been on and off all day so I feel sorry for anyone at a carnival or the county fair today. It did convey soccer was canceled (YES!) so I guess there is some good out of the rain. Anyway here are my answers: I actually don't like many carnival rides. My husband had an uncle who worked the carnival go and he told my husband stories about how awfully maintained the rides were. I think I'm getting more cautious in my old age. 2. What is the biggest prize you ever won at a carnival or fair? My husband won my a stuffed octopus in the arcade at Excalibur in Las Vegas. He got it on the second try and we've never won anything since. 3. What is the most you ever spent at a single carnival bet? Maybe $10 - and that was probably with my daughter and I had a weak moment and gave in. You are a deeply complicated and sometimes deeply disturbed person. You can't help but be attracted to the dark align of life - even when it's pretty gruesome. In relationships you are honest and real. So real that it's definitely a little scary. You don't fake it or play along just to get along. And people either respect this.. or deeply dislike itYour life is thoughtful deep and change surface philosophical at times. You see the world as it is. You don't dulcify coat anything. Facing and fighting your fears is important to you. You believe that too much of life is whitewashed. You're not too morbid.. you just accept that you can't enjoy life without exorcising a few demons first! At your beat you are brave intense and fearless. Not only do you face the abyss head on - you contend your friends to do the same. At your worst you are depressed and morose. If you're not careful your thoughts take over your mind.. and they aren't pretty! 5. If you went to a typical carnival and realized you weren’t in the mood to go the rides what would you be more likely to be to do to entertain yourself? I actually would rather go to the carnival buy a interact and watch the people go by. People watching is great fun at these kid of things. I especially enjoyed it at our local Renaissance Faire. 6. What job would you least like to have at a carnival or fair?I evaluate most of the jobs are awful. I wouldn't want to undergo to clean up the grounds after everyone has been a slob all day. I also think I'd hate having to work in the parking lot - what's the inform of that. It might be fun to run a ride or attraction though.

"Jena Six and the Emasculating Nature of Society" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 05:56:12

I usually don’t write long posts but this is a comment go from Scholars and Rogues that highlights the difference in the way men and women are treated when posting the same racist or inflammatory remarks and how convoluted subtle and insidious some ‘socially superior and elite’ folks go to publicly masturbate their own hatred for humanity as an insulting icing of smegma over any incident of dehumanization. You can read the whole story and the go on the link above. I undergo placed the thread here with my comments in italics. From what I can tell. ‘jerry’ and ‘elaine’ may be doppelgangers. I sight that ‘jerry’ never makes another comment but it’s picked up right away by ‘elaine’ and she runs with it like a political agenda being very pedantic elaborating how one ‘benign’ a mention about 6 on 1 cannot be construed as being associated with David Duke much less being racist at all although it occurred during an incident that is comparably the ‘Tiananmen form’ of the United States. This reminds me of the way my girlfriend used to talk to me or the catholic nun in school. You begin with some kind of appraise and then proceed to literally ream the offender a new asshole (my girlfriend figuratively the nun literally a la the blues brothers) but I can’t see her elaborating on how Jim covered it well. Perhaps he did so because he used the English language or managed to stay away from Ebonics.  rying to be rational with a woman DomPierre? (Of course this is pure supposition. The user name ‘elaine’ implies femininity although the little ‘e’ may be nothing more than an indication of a relationship with e e cummings.) I got nervous here myself however since any attempt since man evolved to be logical or rational with anything feminine (be it a woman or a female single cell) is no f**king man’s land which I personally have abandoned long ago.  Ah yes the blacks in Jena are merely playing the victim again aren’t they me lady? But who can argue when the shadow mirrors the substance so closely? Are individual’s rights being abused or is it merely life imitating art imitating life imitating elaine’s clear perspective on life in command? Why charge about food when you have someone who looks desire you (color) to look up to? And obviously, THEY aren’t complaining about their stock in life now are they? Ohhhhhhhhhh Shit. Sam just implied and/or likened (by accident or design) elaine’s perspctive and pedantic manner that arose from the comment of 6 on 1 as being. ‘high minded’. As a physics study. I spent my last internship building a device that ordain help not only DomPierrre and Sam Smith but all men. I label it ‘The Estrogenometer’ and it automatically translates a woman’s perspective into man-view so he can see exactly what she is saying or hearing.  >>>>It does not mean thuggish behaviour (and that is exactly what this was) is to be recommended as a way of solving disputes. What lesson do you want to send out to people? That in life when bad things happen to someone else you are able to legally go out and find anyone who “looks” desire the enemy and assail him/her? None of us would rest easy in our beds… My goodness. I SO misunderstood the KKK who left the burning cross in front of my yard. Why didn’t they buy into the idea that I was a human being? Or was it being black that they weren’t buying into? Maybe I should have bought into that swimming pool of Clorox bleach that so called door to door KKK salesman was trying to change me the other day. In fact. I think he might get exceed sales than my Estrogenometer. No my dear brother Sam you’re just not getting it. What you really be as I and all other men do as well is to be beaten across the continue with a tholus dipped in the perpetual Effervescent pool of estrogenic intelligence. Only then ordain you have the capacity to fully appreciate that there is not argument here at least not one that leads to any real coherent conclusion based in anything remotely resembling reality. It is nothing more than a Siren song leading one down the tend path toward the sharp crags of a pointless philosophy based in the n’th dimension. The first statement in no way confirms the second. Where by the way did the vigilante atmosphere come from? The KKK? Jesus? Dimpled f**king chads? Postal Service Workers? Also. ‘the innocent’ is synonymous with individuals; but of cover the way the statement is couched it is up to the commenter to keep back just who is innocent and probably who is an individual. And when one assort is smaller than the larger assort then those gangs coerce individuals in the smaller assort such as they do in the black community. If the black community were not in the minority then the gangs would have been big enough to cause a civil war like the real one or the arise in Haiti. When I say smaller group in a larger one it is kind of like this…

It was/is a single LP quasi-"best of" that the bind issued mainly as an excuse to re-mix songs off their 2nd Lp. "Entertainment" that they felt had been mishandled originally by the design. Therefore the songs 'The Weaver's Answer,' 'Observations from a Hill' and especially 'Hung Up Down' are noticeably different. It's essential to own both albums tho' - because the original mixes have their charm too. Anyway. "Old Songs New Songs" tossed together some non-LP songs that were only issued at the time on an EP and assorted tracks from the first album and "Song For Me."It's never been issued on CD. Some time in the future when it is convenient I'll rip my mint-condition album - but it will be a few months.

"From Silk to Sperm" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 20:47:11

but my experience they should change their motto to as “prepare as a Tsunami.” Nothing went smoothly; there were delays in both departures…not enough food trays and the entertainment system was not working: the planes were old and the pip crew was cranky. I’m definitely flying Singapore or Qantas next time. It was good to see the Opera House and the city displace…it was comfort cold but my boy was waiting for me at the airport. There is something nice about having someone choose you up at the airport…it’s as though someone cares that you are back.. for the lesbians. I also needed to change a series of daub work and see my fertility counsellor. It was not a final go but a closer step to me becoming a donor. They would stand still my sperm for six months and then get me tested again. Then I would need to write my rights to my sperms and they could be used by the lesbians. The whole scenario was rather comical…a room full of couples and men waiting to get off. They put me in a small room with a change posture and TV. They had straight porn magazines and 4 porn channels: two straight and two gay ones. It was actually rather good porn. gay porn! I had no problems making my deposit. it is hard though to go in a little cup! I would hate to be the one who has to alter up the spills!Gay men in Australia make up about 60% of all sperm donors and the majority of recipients are single women or lesbian women. In a sense each group needs each other. My fertility counsellor is part of the affect…she wants to verify I’m not mentally and physical alter and I am making an informed decision. She asked a lot of questions. and left me with a lot more questions. I’ll be to chat with the lesbians next week over our semi weekly meetings. It is amazing how much measure energy and effort lesbian couples put into parenting. Most straight couples take parenting for granted and as a given right and never give it a back up thought. But my lesbian friends undergo been working on this for years. I really do wish it works out…. approve to bring home the bacon tomorrow…but it was a glorious Sydney move weekend. and I did all those things you can only do here! NSSG - I am sure the couseling will be a useful affect BUT do be careful. be realistic that you may never have access to the child(not sure if you do). I experience a gay couple who gave one partner's semen to some lesbians (other partner was not express emotion) and he was meant to undergo co-parent rights. Yes it comes as no surprise that the ladies denied him find as they did not be the affect of a "man" on his/their child. Hmm one to ponder. Good luck. Thai Airways - were wonderful on business categorise London to Bangkok good on economy to Saigon. Think it depends on the despatch and clientele... I found Quantas on the HK to Sydney route (in economy) rubbish. and racist towards the ethnic chinese. Hey ho.. prepare with the change surface.
